    About "Patricia Highsmith"

      • Patricia Highsmith

Patricia Highsmith Is a well-known author, some of his books are a fascination for readers like in the Deep Water: A Virago Modern Classic (VMC) by Patricia Highsmith (2015-05-07) book, this is one of the most wanted Patricia Highsmith author readers around the world.

    1. The livre est arrivé très rapidement et dans un bon état. Je ai déjà fini: un autre superbement écrit. Je vais le dire en anglais: Patricia Highsmith writes so cleverly that the murderer seems normal - just like us - and you want them to get away with it. The effort of not getting discovered feels like being in a bad dream yourself. I have to say that it came as a shock at the end when Vic was indeed proclaimed to be a psychopath.

    2. I only recently discovered Patricia Highsmith, after a friend of mine cited her as one of her favorite authors. I was intrigued by the details of her life, and the seemingly misanthropic narratives of her work, including normal people casually slipping into crime, as Claude Chabrol once stated of his films. As other critics have noted. Patricia is not a crime writer, and this is said in the most praising way. She is a fascinating observer of human nature, the darker sides of desires and presents [...]

    3. Much to love about this tale - I wanted to give it 4-stars but had to give up the fifth. Let's settle on 4.5 largely because I had to constantly attribute lack of insight to the era. No friend of Vic (husband) would make excuses for Melinda (wife) today. Children are also given short shrift, put aside after they serve their (small) part as device to show motive or inch plot forward, etc.I guessed the ending early on, worth .5 of a star as well. That said, the slow poisonous atmosphere, mounting [...]

    4. It was ten unimpressive chapters leading up to the sudden first murder, and many more boring chapters till the second murder. I skipped ahead many pages after scanning them, seeing that there were page after page of the mans thoughts. I hated to give up on the story, as I kept hoping the plot would quicken. It only quickened in the end when an outsider, suspicious neighbor appeared at the murder scene for no given reason and accused him of the murder Then the character goes home and kills his un [...]

    5. One thing that simultaneously works for and against Highsmith's writing style is her ability to create terror out of the mundane. While the details of ordinary life sometimes drag on too long without even a hint of suspense, when they finally give way to violence, the shock value is amplified. "Deep Water" is a perfect example of this dichotomy.Vic is a strange character -- unemotional, quiet, patient, and as it turns out, repressing great rage. On the outside, he seems far less offended by h [...]

    6. It had been some time since I last read a Highsmith novel and this one kept me riveted, how she can pull readers in when the main character is obviously a psychopath speaks to her skill as a writer. This book is so much better than Gillian Flynn's "Gone Girl" which completely turned me off. Interesting how two writers can take the same types of characters and one creates 3-dimensional, rounded characters while the other gives us less developed 2-dimensional ones. Makes. All the difference.I re [...]
