    1. I actually read Prodigal Summer. I have read all of her other books. The Poisonwood Bible is one of my favorites and I teach the Bean Trees. This novel reflects the author's love of her home in Kentucky. The story alternates between a loner female Park Ranger who meets a mysterious stranger, a city girl who has married into a farming family who don't understand or accept her and an older man and women who are neighbors but can't be more different. The alternating storylines kept my attention and [...]

    2. I read Bean Trees, The Poisonwood Bible and The Prodigal Summer. I enjoyed all of them for very different reasons. The author's style encourages lots of introspective thought. I wish I had been reading with a Book Club when I came across The Poisonwood Bible. I have the feeling there could have been some lively conversation!

    3. I love Barbara Kingsolver's older novels. I haven't gotten a chance to finish The Lacuna, or even crack open her newest novel. But, I'm looking forward to these two for my summer reading! Barbara Kingsolver has a way of making characters raw and relatable, but polished and perfect at the same time. They are perfect because they are real, and occasionally gritty. A delight!

    4. This was a hard book for me to read. I got confused with the languages and names. It was interesting to read about the Congo and the way of life, very depressing that anyone could live under those conditions. I hope it was fiction. I read 538 pages.

    5. The book I read was Prodigal Summer. It is one I could read time and again and learn something new each time. Beautifully written with intelligent insight into human nature and its impact on itself and the species we share the planet with. Thinking more about it, this novel also speaks of balance in all things. I can't put this one out of my mind. Oddly enough it took a bit of time to engage with the story. But once caught, I found myself thinking about it's content between readings. It's not a [...]

Ella

    7. I just finished reading this book and almost immediately wanted to re-start it. The quality of the writing is superb, and she draws you into her worldview without ever preaching. The characters are beautifully rounded, and even the less sympathetic ones are presented with a warmth and humanity that engages the reader. Wonderful book - highly recommended.

    8. That is strange that does not show Barbara'a books seperately. I feel like I am reading a Navada Barr book with Prodigal Summer because Deanna is a wildlife biologist.

    9. Prodigal summer and pigs in heaven are my favourite by Barbara Kingsolver, could not get into the poison wood bibleied several times!

    10. I've liked every book I've read by Barbara Kingsolver. this was no exception. No big suspense, not a lot of twists and turns . just a good read!

    11. Loved this book. Her used of descritive passages, the well developed characters, and especially the ending!
