    1. Yet another novel from the Tomes of the Dead series seeks to add some new flare to the overwhelming number of zombie books being written nowadays. This novel mixes the two main types of zombies (Romero-style flesh eaters and the Hoodoo/Voodoo variety) into one interesting novel with a new take on the subgenre without moving too far away from the bits that most of us zombie people are into.A couple wealthy young adults get a substantial amount of money from their parents to embark on a ceremony k [...]

    2. A brilliantly fun zombie story and satire on management techniques and the global financial crisis. This is a Zombie story with BRAINZ.

    3. Also, while some zombie purists may find fault with Barks's combination of voodoo zombies and flesh-hungry Romero-esque zombies, the combination of the two works well to propel the underlying satire of the novel. Overall, this was a really fast-paced and entertaining read.Full review here: shroudmagazinebookreviews

    4. Way of the Barefoot Zombie is a modern day voodoo zombie tale with some interesting twists. As it starts out, we are introduced to Benjamin and Tatyana, two trust fund kids who have helped create "The Zombie Liberation Front", which is an organization focused on walking in the footsteps of the noble monsters, or zombies, of Haitian Lore. But voodoo zombies are real in this tale and Benjamin and Tayana are off on a mission to free a group of them being used by a wealthy entrepreneur, Doc Papa, wh [...]

    5. In this novel, JB is clever to lampoon the current trend for self-help and how to get rich guides. A nice touch of the voodoo zombie, brings in the atmospheric feelings from the old black and white movies expertly well and sets up the backdrop for the whole sordid story.None of the characters are particularly nice, they all have some sharp edge, shady past dealings or an outright nasty, self-possessed nature, but JB writes about them with such civility you can feel the sarcasm dripping off the p [...]

    6. Doc Papa is running a course he calls "The Way of the Barefoot Zombie" in which the richest people are invited to come and try to learn how to detach themselves from their emotions in order to do what needs doing to make more money. They learn how to move among zombies safely by imitating them right down to the eating of living human flesh. The course culminates in the removing of the Gros Bon Ange, the higher reasoning part of the soul, through voodoo means and trapping it in a vessel so it can [...]

    7. I bought this book on a whim one day based on the description the back gave; I thought it sounded just ridiculous enough to be awesome. I can't say I was exactly disappointed in how the story turned out, but it wasn't overwhelmingly great, either. The story starts off kind of slow, setting up the main characters and how they got where they are. Once you get past that, though, the story picks up, and the plan goes awry (doesn't it always?), things start to get more interesting as they learn more a [...]

    8. Loved the concept of this, but wasn't very impressed by the execution. The characters were flat and immature, their motives over-simplified. The worst part for me was the introduction of the Zombie Liberation Front because the interaction between them was awkward and unbelievable to the point of making it painful to read. The book did pick up towards the second half of the book though, and all the details about Voodoo were interesting.

    9. 3.5/5I keep forgetting to write my reviews when I finish a book so I don't have I fully accurate feel of how the book impacted me. This was an interesting take on zombies but there was something missing from it that kept it from being an outstanding book. It was still quite enjoyable though.

    10. I did like the book but it wasn't as good as I thought it would be. Would still recommend it to people to read. I do like the Tomes of the Dead series.
