    1. Mmmm. Cajun cooking. Gumbo. Crawfish. Boudin. Jambalya. Frank Castle on the rotisserie. Wait. What?It seems the Punisher has run afoul of some inbred, back woods, bayou cannibals (are there any other kind? Rhetorical question. No, there aren’t.). He’s on his way to delivering a gang banger, who’s unconscious and in his trunk, to New Orleans. He gets an “itch” about the fate of some kids he saw on the road and well, the rest as they say, is a worn out horror movie cliché.This isn’t t [...]

    2. Like the last couple of volumes, this one is fine. Nothing particularly special, but it is fun and punishery. And fine.

    3. Eat your heart out Burt Reynolds! All's in the title: all similarities to a certain movie are purely intentional. So you've got a carload of inbred cajun hillbillies, including the vampy out-of-her-frigging-mind blonde, springbreak victims, a huuuuuge Leatherface-type of opponent (ok, that's in another movie) and the Punisher. So what do you expect? It's so violently trash (or vice-versa) it's fun. A pure no-brainer but fun just the same. All the more with Goran Parlov on the drawing board, with in [...]

    4. Frank Castle travels the back roads of Louisiana to deliver a "passenger", in exchange for vital information. Along the way, he encounters a family of cannibalistic, inbred hicks, and the real horror beginsThe Punisher MAX series was mostly so-so right after Ennis' departure, but this one fires on all cylinders, at least for me. Pitting Frank against a family of psychopaths in unfamiliar environment works great, as it's basically Punisher vs. the cast of a teen slasher. there's every cliche you [...]

    5. Imagine if Frank Castle showed up in the middle of Texas Chainsaw Massacre, squinted his famously squinty eyes, and hunkered down to save those poor kids, thereby getting hung on a hook like everyone else that's pretty much what you get here, a creepy horror comic filled with sex, gore, a freaky torture-loving bayou family of creeps, and not one but two dudes (gargantuan variations of Lil Abner and Leatherface) who kick the living shit out of the Punisher. Lots of visual wit and hilarious turnar [...]

    6. I love what Marvel is doing with the Punisher series by allowing different authors to add their own story arcs. Some of my favorite authors have contributed including Jason Aaron (Scalped, Kingpin), Duane Swierczynski (Severance Package, 6 Hours to Kill) and Victor Gischler who wrote ‘Welcome to The Bayou’ and the short story ‘Little Black Book’ – both of which are collected in this volume. In their own right, both stories are fantastic, Bayou is distinctly ‘Deliverance-Wrong Turn’ [...]

    7. The final issue has five short stories about Frank. They are, arguably, the highlight of this volume, but the Bayou story is ok too.Frank needs to dispose of a guy and takes the long and safe way to his destination, through the Louisiana Bayou. He is passed by college kids on a road trip and later suspects they are captured by locals. Unknown to Frank, the kids are well on their to being eaten by crocodiles and the cannibalistic locals, a large family of hillbillies. Frank returns to their house [...]

    8. This was a fun one! It had no airs above its station and made it clear from the beginning that it had nothing more to be or aspire to than a short romp. Frank takes a detour on a trip to Louisiana and ends up messing with a bunch of backwoods cannibalistic fucks who've abducted a car full of spring breakers. That's it! All silly action and all the better for it. The art matches the vibe, darker lines and more squared-off features. The standalone story at the end--a trademark, I guess, of this po [...]

    9. Victor Gischler's one of my favorite young "over the top" crime writers (see PISTOL POETS and GUN MONKEYS especially), and his take on Punisher is just fine: basically it's the usual mayhem-with-the-backwoods-rednecks trope: they always have sexy crazy daughters, eat strangers, and keep pet alligators, right? The reading pleasure was significantly heightened by Goran Parlov's wonderful drawings (I wish he would do more comics work), and the final "bonus" story seems to me an updated homage to Fl [...]

    10. The Punisher MAX series does for Frank Castle what the 616 Marvel Universe cannot - remove the superheroics and pit the Punisher against the most reprehensible dregs of society while making it feasible. One a trip south, Frank gets drawn into a Southern cannibal ring, thanks to "that itch at the back of his skull." A nifty way to portray the Punisher out of his element, while demonstrating that Frank - for all his faults - is still human.

    11. This is amazingly written and drawn, the story is well thought out and put together. I really respect that the story follows a timeline and does not change to allow things in. Once I picked the first issue up I could not put it back down, I had to keep reading. This was time well spent and I recommend this series to all comic book fans and non fans.

    12. For some reason I like violence against dumb-as-dirt, backwoods hick cliches. Also, there's a fish-tale sized alligator that eats stupid victims in large bite fulls and I like that, too. I would have used him more, however

    14. The Punisher MAX ended with a really high note.Violent fun with really good art. Parlov is an artist to keep eye on.
