book, and I chose the third one spend seven Saturday nights drinking your green ice lemon tea no sugar please with a notebook and a pen by your side taking 26 pages of notes in a 285 pages book feel free to change the numbers but don t add sugar in your tea.See, if you follow Humble the Poet online, you pretty much know what to expect so you can t just read the book, you need to study the concepts he touches. The book description is actually surprisingly accurate and you get what you pay for There is nothing profound being said in the book and that s what makes it so unique He is not the know it all type.Don t read it as a how to guide rather than a letter from a friend who wants you to do better That is the best part of the book, he writes as he would I feel talk to a friend There are concepts like get your head out of your ass , you do you, let them do them , or you are not the fucking center of the world and, my personal favorite, we re all gonna die, so don t settle for a life you didn t choose. If this book was a YouTube video or an Instagram post, it would have millions of hate comments and I love that about it It s so normal that it s controversial It is authentic It is a friend that will tell you to wake the fuck up and start living your life For me, it was the first time that a book made me want to write than I wanted to keep on reading It felt like a conversation, for some weird reason, I wanted to be part of It reminds you the things you forgot as you got older and tired of trying As I am writing this review, I realize that the style I am describing is that of a great teacher who gives advice to his students Be open minded and read this book as an open letter from a boy, who lived through his challenges to become a man, and wants to help you face your challenges by sharing his journey flag 10 likesLike see review View 1 comment Dec 12, 2014 Navpreet rated it it was amazing review of another edition Shelves introspection I picked favorites A very simple and unpretentious delivery of ideas on how one can achieve a fulfilling life Everyone will face most of these challenges, simple truths , in their life at one point or another, depending how far along the journey you are already, you may be all too familiar with most of them.I didn t find that Humble came across as preachy at all while explaining all these simple truths YES, there are actually 101 of them, however some of them are the same, just re worded a little differently A very simple and unpretentious delivery of ideas on how one can achieve a fulfilling life Everyone will face most of these challenges, simple truths , in their life at one point or another, depending how far along the journey you are already, you may be all too familiar with most of them.I didn t find that Humble came across as preachy at all while explaining all these simple truths YES, there are actually 101 of them, however some of them are the same, just re worded a little differently I think I very much liked his ordinary approach to how life plays out for most of us In fact, how can anyone who claims to be sensible with a good head on their shoulders, not like someone who s trying to show you how to look at life from all different perspectives I quite admire someone capable of being broad minded enough to know life isn t always black and white Actually I feel that Humble manages to deliver his message with just the right amount of humour too, so that you don t doubt his seriousness but you might somehow feel like he could possibly be someone you d like to hang around with and listen to , just to see what other neat ideas that he has gathered up in his 36 years. In my opinion, I believe it s healthy every so often for anyone to re evaluate the way you think and live life in general The whole purpose of this short time that we re allotted here on this big old planet is to learn and grow, is it not Right Life lessons are continuously presented to us to help us grow This book helps remind you of things that you have probably already figured out if you re at least as old as Humble but it s good to hit the ol refresh button in your mind once in a while.I marvel at anyone who has a gift to convey complex thoughts very clearly and with simple everyday words that don t require you to Google their definitions This book does just that Some common sense wisdom, nicely put.I will admit I don t agree with all 101 of them there simple truths but Humble acknowledges that we don t all agree with each other and that s OK That s right, keep an open mind Jennifer I do however love that he encourages the reader in such a positive way to challenge their thinking As I was reading along throughout the brief chapters , it occurred to me that Humble s approach to some of the simple truths may have been quite different if he were a happily married man as opposed to an available single guy His few chapters on love seemed a little less wisdom filled or maybe the word is unenlightened Either way, I appreciated his thoughts of, you having to love yourself first before you can love someone else That made sense regardless of the relationship status that any of us have Bottom line for me is, this was a fantastic motivational book with lots of little reminders of how to enjoy this life and how to surround yourself with people that bring out the best energy in you I appreciated the clear and simple ideas presented They are all basic truths that we often avoid admitting to ourselves Definitely worth the time and money for this book It s a keeper. In closing I ll just add that it s up to you to take his words to heart or not No one can tell you how to live your life because it is yours to do with as you see fit In essence, it s your masterpiece to work on but if you take anything, even just one thing away from this book, let it be that life isn t so simple, it s not black and white, you have to add your own true colors to it to make it the most unique masterpiece that you can We re all a combination of nature and nurture and it s that combination working together that creates the person we are meant to be.Great work Humble I
