    1. This is a sequel to Mr. Hausladen’s Ghosts in the Yew and will contain some spoilers for the earlier work.Prince Barok has brought the sleepy backwater province of Enhedu from a shameful place of exile to a thriving young nation in little over a year with the help of his wife Dia, alsman (head servant) Leger and former bodyguard Geart. Meanwhile, the Zoviyan Empire is crumbling as its Exaltier, Barok’s father, is weakening and the remaining sons jockey for position. There’s no time to rest [...]

    2. Noting the heft of Blake Hausladen’s Native Silver paperback, the second book in the Vesteal Series, a six-year-old in my home daycare checked it out and said, “Whoa, that book is over 600 pages!” The good news is it didn’t read like that. Given that I do not usually read fantasy, this book held my interest all the way through. Given that history isn’t my favorite subject, I felt immersed in the 12th century world Blake skillfully created. I didn’t hate it. I got into it! Favorite ch [...]

    3. When the mailman dropped Native Silver, by Blake Hausladen, off at my door, I thought someone had kicked the wall, it was so heavy. But that was good.I spend endless hours in the world that Hausladen has created. Other reviewers have already summarized parts of it, and I hate to be redundant or offer too many spoilers, so I'll focus my review on the characters and language.Hausladen has no problem maintaining the world he has created with appropriate terminology and that is one of the most impres [...]

    4. I received a copy of book two of the Vesteal Series: Native Silver for free through First Reads. In this second book of the Vesteal Series our four main characters, Barok, Dia, Leger and Geart, are back and they are faced with war with the Zoviyan Empire. This is a much stronger book than the first in the series. I expected as much since a good portion of the first book had to be dedicated to character introduction and drawing the reader into the world Hausladen built. With that being said, I wi [...]

    5. Blake Hausladen has done it again. The second book from the "Handsale Assassin" continues the story begun in Ghosts in the Yew and shows that the promise Hausladen showed with his first book is being fulfilled. The world he has built becomes even more involved and involving, returning characters grow and change before our eyes in ways both believeable and surprising and new characters join a story that continues to build momentum for the final book in the trilogy. Whether by crossing paths with [...]

    6. Blakes second dive into my brain was a fun ride. I've been anticipating the characters from Ghosts in the Yew and what Blake was going to do to them. What I did not foresee was the new characters and how much I was going to enjoy the new story arcs. All spoilers aside, I appreciate how Blake doesn't wrap "main" characters in bubble wrap. The mortality of a story is the most compling reason for me to pickup an author again and again. I will pick up more from Blake Hausladen.

    7. WOW,WOW,WOW,WOW. all I can say about this book. Ghost In The Yew was a great book, however Native Silver was on a whole different level. Blake Hausladen is able to write an in depth story without the details boring the hell out of you. I simply cannot wait for book 3. The Vesteal series is on par with Demon Cycle/Wheel of time. Thank You Blake for a wonderful read.

    8. SO GOOD! Blake Hausladen knockes it out of the park with "Native Silver"! The well-formed characters are back with more action, more back-stabbing, and more plotting. So much is going on that the multiple viewpoints really work in this book. Engaging throughout, but buckle your seatbelt for the last bit! Enough exclamation points? (I really enjoyed this book!)

    9. Hausladen ups the ante for all of his characters in this installment of his series. I spent most of the book thinking "Oh, crapwhat is he going to do next?!" The characters are even more riveting than in the first book and his addition of 3 more first person POVs show his skill with character and voice. My favorites quickly became the Soma and Evand. I can't wait for the next book!

    10. I enjoyed this 2nd. book of this series by this amazing storyteller and looking forward to reading Where The Shadow Dwells!
