    1. This is a wonderfully written novel about a young widow. Lauren fell in love with Rory in high school. Despite time apart because of college and because Rory made it to the NHL, his death after enlisting in Afghanistan caused Lauren to essentially forget about her own goals and dreams and hide out in the family beach house year round. She’s been hiding from the media for four years. She’s had a strained relationship with her older sister, Stephanie, since falling for Rory all those years ago [...]

    2. Wow, what a story that touched my heart and broke it at the same time! This book is beautifully written and discusses issues that are normally not discussed involving athletes and the physical effects it can have on them with being oushed forward. This book was hard to digest at times but truly worth the read!

    3. review to come - in the meantime, this was amazing!Okay, okay! This book deserves WAY more than just that. And so does the marvelous Jamie Brenner for her hard work and research. This week was incredibly tough for me emotionally hearing about the tragedy in Vegas. I needed that all consuming distraction to hide from reality and shield myself from the media and The Husband Hour was it. A lesser novel would not have been able to help me stop me stop worrying obsessively and fixating on this traged [...]

    4. Jamie Brenner tells an incredibly important and powerful story in The Husband Hour. She takes a tough topic that is finally starting to gain traction in the media after way too much time being overlooked and ignored at the expense of pro (and even college) athletes and weaves into an engrossing and terribly sad story. My heart broke for Lauren because she was widowed so young, and she clearly struggled to live her life after Rory died. I liked that the focus was on both Lauren’s and Rory’s d [...]

    5. In The Husband Hour, Jamie Brenner has taken her writing and Summer fiction to a whole new level. While the book has the quintessential family Summer house, it also has intense plot feature issues relating to both sports concussions (how timely) and military vets/deaths. I read this book in the course of one very long sitting as I could not put it down.Wow, just wow!!

    6. FULL REVIEW WILL BE ON APRIL 24, 2018."If you enjoy the beach and characters that don't interact well with each other but do carry the story line, THE HUSBAND HOUR will be for you. You will also find out the meaning of the book's title as well as become educated about traumatic brain injuries that athletes incur. THE HUSBAND HOUR will appeal to many, but I just couldn't connect with the characters or the story line. There is a surprise at the end. 3/5"This book was given to me free of charge and [...]

    7. As always, thank you HBG Canada for this copy of The Husband Hour by Jamie BrennerI don't even know where to begin. I'll be honest and say that at first I wasn't sure I would be completely into it. I loved the synopsis. Dream couple Lauren and Rory are high school sweethearts. He gets drafted to the NHL but then decides to join to army. He dies in combat and Lauren is absolutely crushed. A filmmaker wants to make a film about Rory but Lauren wants no part in it. Okay, amazing right. It took me a [...]

    8. Jamie Brenner deftly balances impeccable research about the hot topic of brain injuries in sports with an unpredictable plot that is alternately suspenseful and heartwarming. A tale of the complexities of sisterhood, love and the secrets we keep—sometimes even from ourselves—The Husband Hour will grab you from the first sentence and hold you in its grasp until the last. I absolutely could not put it down.

    9. MY REVIEW OF “THE HUSBAND HOUR” BY Jamie BrennerKudos to Jamie Brenner, Author of “The Husband Hour” for writing such a captivating, intense, intriguing, and enthralling novel. BE WARNED: This is a difficult novel to put down. I read this in one sitting. There are so many significant issues that Jamie Brenner writes about in a fictional setting. The Genres for this novel are Fiction and Women’s Fiction. The author describes her characters as complex, complicated. Some of the characters [...]

    10. A story of a Star Hockey player . While waiting for the NHL he went into the military. He died serving his country. Rory had a wife ( Lauren). There was a time when they had separated. They still loved each other, but Lauren needed some space. While separated Rory hooked up with Laurens sister Stephanie . The consequences were difficult.Since Lauren was now a war widow, she was approached by a film maker( Matt) to do a memorialStory of her husband. There were surprises for all.Now Lauren begins t [...]

    11. I hate when I have to say this, but I honestly don't know how to review this book. I didn't love it and I didn't hate it. I stand in the neutral position on this one.Great plot line, the characters didn't do a lot for me, even Matt. Her sister's behavior throughout the book was deplorable, her Mother was a fixer and enabler and the whole family dynamic was just one more added drama that maybe wasn't necessary to the plot. You can read the blurb and get the gist of the story. I totally understand [...]

    12. I honestly wasn't sure what to expect when I began reading, but certainly grab your Kleenex and be prepared to stay up for hours on end with a book hangover! This subject has always been close to my heart with my father in the military and knowing others. It can change you for better and for worse. I think that Jamie did an amazing portraying the reality of the subject in a very real way. She really hits the heart of this topic and does it justice. I feel for Lauren and what she is going though. [...]

    13. Lauren is living all alone in a New Jersey beach town after her husband is killed. She is in a holding pattern and just can't move on from her terrible loss. Her husband Rory was a professional hockey player, and during high school, college, and professional games suffered many concussions. He decided he wanted to serve his country and joined the military. He was killed in the Middle East. Matt tracks down Lauren and wants to do a documentary about her husband. This forces Lauren to examine her [...]

    14. 4.5 starsThis is the second book of Brenner’s and definitely my favorite. The theme of head trauma to athletes and military is timely in our world today. Brenner’s characters were very well developed. The Story brought a lump to my throat several times. The only reason not a five star rating is I felt like everything was wrapped up too nicely. All the conflict and problems in the Story were all resolved nice and tidy by the end. A little too unrealistic for me. I received an advance reader c [...]

    15. My second book by Jamie Brenner, fast becoming a favorite for her ability to transport the reader to the beach towns of the northeast and to craft a story filled with relationships, family drama, and with subtle romance. A very satisfying combination. In The Husband Hour we are transported to the Jersey Shore where Lauren is living as a widow, hiding away from life and family, after the death of her Army husband Rory. Lauren and Rory were high school sweethearts. Rory, a gifted athlete who went [...]

    16. A young widow living her life in a east coast beach town & struggling with the years that have gone by without her husband, she is going through the motions.A series of events within her family & with herself make several things come to light, about her husband ( a young, attractive hockey player who goes into the military), about her family & mostly about herself.I loved the summer beach atmosphere, this would be a perfect summer beach read. But there is a deeper side to this book, [...]

    17. I didn't really like this book much, never really got into it or the characters. I thought about not finishing it the whole time I was reading it, but was curious about the ending. I guess I am in the minority here, but it just wasn't for me.Thank you to Little Brown & Co and Netgalley for the advance digital review copy!

    18. A fast paced read about a heartbreaking and often overlooked topic, concussions. Ms. Brenner tugs at the heart with this story about HS hockey superstar Rory and his quest to be the best and, his gf/wife Lauren. Lauren’s path is a tough one for one so young. She has to face so many obstacles in her young life. Your heart will break for Lauren, and you will face many emotions regarding Rory. Ms Brenner certainly did her research, from concussions, to military to the area HS in PA she wrote abou [...]

    19. I received this ARC from NetGalley for an honest review. The Husband Hour is my first read by author Brenner. While the story started slowly, it did pick up and was an interesting read. The bombshell and the end was unexpected and had me reeling. The love story was too forced though, it didn't feel natural, and I would have never expected those two together.

    20. I received a DIGITAL Advance Reader Copy of this book from #NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. From the publisher - When a young widow's reclusive life in a charming beach town is interrupted by a surprise visitor, she is forced to reckon with dark secrets about her family, her late husband, and the past she tried to leave behind.Lauren Adelman and her high school sweetheart, Rory Kincaid, are a golden couple. 21. High school sweethearts. One pursues career with NHL and enlist in Afghanistan while the other sets her dreams on hold for the family beach house. Lauren and her sister Stephanie have had a strained relationship yet nothing could compare to the facts that enfold after Matt Brio (documentary film maker) seeks an interview with them both. Without funding he needs raw data and facts if he wants to make it big time but what better therapy than to get people talking and sharing family secrets. What st [...]

    22. This book is so well written, extremely engaging and one that I could not put down. The story is seamlessly written blending all the emotion attached to each character into a perfect mix. There are secrets that are being held onto on so many levels and the disclosure solidifies the plot.Rory Kincaid was a professional hockey player who left the NHL to join the Army Rangers. His death in the service created a media spectacular and drove his bereft wife, Lauren, into seclusion. aShe has become a r [...]

    23. I am having a hard time getting into any other book after finishing this. I found myself so wrapped up in the lives of all the characters that I would go for hours at a time not even realizing where I was. Having never been to Jersey, I had absolutely no trouble imagining the beach or the house, or Nora’s restaurant. I felt for Lauren through most of the book. Jamie Brenner has a way of making you care about each character. I could feel the heartbreak Lauren was facing after losing her husband [...]

    24. A young widow isolated from the world after her hockey star *hero* husband dies in combat. A determined filmmaker prepared to unearth the truth. Two sisters torn apart by jealousy and rivalry. Jamie Brenner delves into the lives of these complex characters and the secrets that have the power to rip them apart, and ultimately bring them back together.I read this book in two days. I love Brenner's writing style, and her books are always satisfying, touch on modern issues, and offer a lovely beach [...]

    25. THE HUSBAND HOURby Jamie Brenner (Hachette/Little, Brown, April 2018)Here’s a fairy tale romance novel sandwiched around gritty contemporary issues: domestic violence, sisterhood, betrayal, family expectations, paternity, journalistic responsibility, post-traumatic stress disorder, CTE, grief. Lauren’s husband Rory dies in combat and she turns to his best friend, Matt, for companionship. Matt(whose brother died during combat in Afghanistan) is a war correspondent, and uncovers a hidden truth [...]

    26. A fantastic read! This was my first novel by Brenner. Her other novels have been on my radar but I haven’t started them yet but this novel makes me want to start The Forever Season right away. The Husband Hour was a novel I got sucked into quickly and caused me to ignore my husband and kids for two days. This novel was told in third person point of view alternating between Lauren, Beth and Matt. Lauren is the grieving widow and Beth is her mother. Matt is the director of a documentary about La [...]

    27. I received an advance review copy of The Husband Hour from the Great Thought's Ninja Review Team. All opinions are my own. This was my third Jamie Brenner book after reading The Wedding Sisters and The Forever Summer (both of which I LOVED), and it definitely didn't disappoint. I always like reading books set in New England, and the family dynamic of this book was one of the best I have read in a while. I was anxious to find out how the story would end between Lauren and her sister, Lauren and th [...]

    28. I Received an Advance Review Copy of this book. All opinions are my own.Rory Kincaid is a star hockey player in high school. He's got good looks and can have any girl he wants. He chooses to be with younger Lauren Adelman, who genuinely adores him. As they begin their married lives together, Rory is an NHL hockey player who decided he wants to fight for his country. The novel begins with Rory's memorial service. Lauren is a young widow who rushes off to her family's empty beach house in New Jers [...]

    29. Amazing. Jamie Brenner is fast becoming a must-read author for me. A couple of years ago, I read The Wedding Sisters and while I couldn't necessarily relate to that drama, I loved the story. Flash forward to this summer and flying through The Forever Summer, which I couldn't put down. I read it one lazy afternoon, floating around Long Lake. I jumped at the chance to receive an ARC from NetGalley of The Husband Hour. I couldn't put it down. Lauren and Rory's high school romance story was so real. [...]

    30. I received an advanced copy of this book from the Great Thoughts Great Reader’s Ninja team in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own. I am a huge fan of Jamie Brenner and was excited to read this book but I was also skeptical. As a young widow myself, I am very opinionated about how young widows are portrayed in books. Even more so than young widows, I am often critical about how the late spouse is portrayed. Too often they are flawless men who made no mistakes ever. I thought [...]
