As with a lot of fellow readers and romance lovers, Beauty and the Beast is one of my all-time favourite fairy-tales and so the prospect of reading a re-telling of the story from the Beast's perspective was too good an opportunity to miss. What's strange is that reading this book didn't feel like reading just another re-telling of Beauty and the Beast.     6. This book is so beautifully written, you’ll feel the magic, the intricate storytelling, the love, all the feels that you can expect from a Beauty and the Beast retelling. I love that it’s set in around about the 17th-century era, the restraint, the language and politeness all add to the charming storytelling. I love the characters, my fav has to be Marie. I thought it was going to be an enigmatic retelling filled with magic and adventure, but instead the plot was slow and the writing repetitive and overdone. I received this as a free book through First Reads, and am so glad I did so.We all know the story of Beauty and the Beast in at least one version (mine is probably Disney's) so I have nothing to say with regards to the storyline. This book is wonderfully written through the eyes of the Beast and in this case he is also the Beauty in his heart. This is a classic fairy tale for a young adult.

    12. I D.N.F this book. I won this in a giveaway and has such high hopes. It sounded magical and enchanting- with beauty and the beast being one of my favourite films I was immediately engaged by the story. The writing is absolutely beautiful, creating some amazing imagery, but I just found the protagonist of the beast to be very slow going.     13. I was so intrigued by the concept of Beauty and the Beast told from the Beast’s perspective. But this book was voyeuristic and made me super uncomfortable! I get that the Beast didn’t have much to do, but watching his sort-of friend’s family through a magic mirror is creepy!     14. I really like the original beauty and the beast story and love the disney film. I thought hearing the beasts perspective would be interesting. Firstly, the narrative could get quite boring or repetitive as it was mostly the beast talking. However it did get more interesting when other characters and their stories were introduced. I then could not wait to finish the book to see how this version ended. I wasn't disappointed.

At least it had been until I started to think about the deeper implications of the plot (kidnapping, stockholm syndrome, etc).
