    1. My younger sisters and I were highly anticipating this book, and I went to the library for the express purpose of picking it up. ;) (I did grab a few other things that caught my eye, of course.) The books in this series just get better and better! It was adorable, and I was extra happy that Princess Sneezewort was more of a main character since she is my favorite. ;) (And oh, was the monster in this one horribly smart!) I especially enjoyed that there was a message of each person being special i [...]

    2. The last two Princess in Black books, though good, didn't quite reach the heights of the first two. This one comes roaring back. High craft. There is more poetry in this book than in many "real" poetic books for children.

    3. A new mysterious monster-defeating-princess appears, a playdate, dancing, and goats!Well, it was still very fun, but I am not sure if I will continue with this series. I was already happy that (miraculously) one of my libraries had this book in their collection, because I just wasn't up to buying it. But in the end I am just disappointed at this book.Sure, it was also fun (at times), but the formula is just the same (monster appears, Princess in Black (with one and now two helpers) defeat it and [...]

    4. I really like these books as a bridge between picture and chapter book. I'm never going to be that hardcore 'you must read at your reading level' sort of parent, but, I do want Kairi to start getting accustomed to chapter books and taking a few days to read a book. I feel we'll still be doing mostly picture books for awhile, but, with a couple of these snuck in. If you have read any of the other Princess in Black books, this one is similar. It is definitely a book for children, but, it manages t [...]

    5. Delightful! Possibly my favorite in the series, and that's saying a lot because they're all funny and charming and just a delight to read. The audiobook narrator does a fabulous job, too. I told my husband about the Princess in Blankets and he said, "So, she's you?" So, yeah, I love her. :D Get this series for your little girls and boys!!!

    6. If you're a parent raising young children to understand that girls can like ruffles and kicking butt at the same time, this clever and amusing series is an absolute must. A book that can be cute and subvert the patriarchy at the same time? Yes please.

    7. Still as cute as ever and now the Princess in Black has even more companions in her quest to hunt monsters. The monsters are getting smarter too so she needs all the help she can get. :)

    8. Still a fan of the Princess in Black! My daughter wants a Princess in Black birthday party, and she wants to be Princess Sneezewort.

    9. Hale, Shannon and Dean Hale The Princess in Black and the Mysterious Playdate, 90 pgs. Illustrated by LeUyen Pham CHAPTER BOOK Candlewick Press, 2017. $14.99 Content: G. Princess Magnolia (who is secretly the Princess in Black) leaves her kingdom to go to a playdate with Princess Sneezewort, but she doesn’t realize that a monster is following her. During their playdate, they hear someone cry for help because the monster is trying to eat their kitten. Both princesses make up excuses to leave th [...]

    10. The Princess in Black thinks all the monsters have been vanquished so she sets off for a playdate with Princess Sneezewort. But a sneaky monster has slipped past the Princess in Black and the Goat Avenger and is threatening the pets of the land. In the midst of Princess Magnolia and Princess Sneezewort's playdate, a cry for help is heard. The Princess in Black and the Princess in Blankets are trying to catch the monster, but it is pretty sneaky. Can they both keep their secret identities in tact [...]

    11. The Princess in Black meets a new hero!Princess Magnolia has a mysterious playdate planned with her friend, Princess Sneezewort. When a monster follows her to Princess Sneezewort's town and starts trying to eat beloved pets, The Princess in Black is surprised to find another princess heroine, The Princess in Blankets, on the scene!I love that Princess Sneezewort gets to be her own kind of super hero, and she's not just a sidekick for the Princess in Black. She has her own special skills and her [...]

    12. I’ve been reading the Princess in Black books with my two daughters, currently 7 and 4, for a couple do years. They adore these books, which were some of the first ones my older daughter enjoyed reading aloud herself. We’ve read them all multiple (and I do mean MULTIPLE times), and they hold up pretty well to repeat reads, though some better than others. This latest installment is one of the best ones. It features the adorable Princess Sneezewort and her slow-moving pig-steed Sir Hogswell (i [...]

    13. One of the things that I love most about this series is the idea that anyone can become a hero no matter how rough around the edges you might be. In this fifth book in the series, the Princess Magnolia finds herself up against a rather tricky foe. As she travels to visit Princess Sneezewort in a neighboring kingdom, a monster has, unknown to her, hitched a ride on her carriage. As she and Princess Sneezewort enjoy their 'playdate' the monster attempts to eat several pets in a park nearby. Natura [...]

    14. The Princess in Black is at it again in this charming tale surrounding a strange playdate. Princess Magnolia, after saving the day, heads to a playdate with Princess Sneezewort. Little did she know, a shape-shifting monster had escaped from Monster Land! As the monster continues to threaten, the Princess in Black continues to leave her playdate abruptly to save the day! However, who is the mysterious stranger who keeps showing up to help the Princess in Black?Shannon Hale has created charming ta [...]

    15. The adorable little muffin Princess Sneezewort gets a chance to 1) enjoy a delightful playdate with her friend Princess Magnolia and 2) maybe develop a secret identity of her own??? This series continues to be The Cutest and also The Coolest in terms of breaking down gender stereotypes. (I do wonder, though, when will someone discover The Princess In Black's true identity? I hope that one of her friends will figure it out soon--it feels like the books are heading in that direction--and have to k [...]

    16. Princess Black's adventures intensify in this tale, as she accidentally allows a monster to escape out of the secret hole into the lands of her castle. She is having so much fun with her friend Princess Sneezewort that she can't even hear her monster alarm, as trouble arrives and she hears a scream. The best part of this story is the accidental teamwork of Princess in Black and "Princess in Blankets" as they fight monsters using new Ninja skills, demonstrated by Princess in Blankets with the hel [...]

    17. Another secret superhero joins the Princess in Black and the Goat Avenger in this latest installment of the Princess in Black series. Love the way they show the new Princess in Blankets trying out her skills to find a mysterious monster that disappears every time the superheroes arrive to vanquish it. Great fun! Join these princesses for their Playtime Romp, Karaoke Jam, Snack-time Stomp and Unicorn Ram. Callooo!

    18. I read this book to my girls and they enjoyed it! The story is non-traditional as far as princess stories go, which is refreshing. In this book, the Princess in Black meets up with another princess and together they defeat the shape changing monster. The illustrations are fun, colorful and creativeyou never know for sure if the Princess in Black knows the true identity of her new comrade. A fun book!

    19. Another fun installment of the Princess in Black. Princess Magnolia is having a princess playdate with Princess Sneezewort when a monster comes looking to eat pets. Magnolia sneaks off to do her duties at the Princess in Black while Princess Sneezwort is inspired to stop the monster herself, disguised as the Princess in Blankets. Together the two princesses and their noble steads battle the monster while trying to maintain their secret identities.Good for ages 6 and up.

    20. This one was not as good as the others. There are now three "superheros" in this series. I think the story line was lost when trying to introduce the third hero. We liked finding the hiding monster throughout the story and it was nice that they all can get along and "fight" monsters using their own different strengths.

    21. I read this with my 4 year old son and he wanted to read the entire thing in one sitting just like the rest of the books in the series. It was a really fun and sweet story. I liked seeing the princesses' friendship and how they worked together and my son loved finding the hidden monster throughout the story.

    22. Princesses are also super heroes. Love the girl power message. Each book in this series is a fun read with terrific illustrations. Good read aloud or beginning chapter book for a newly independent reader. Like that the girl super heroes expand to include a new girl along with the Princess in Black.

    23. This one's extra cute as Princess Sneezewort figures out how to be a hero and defend her kingdom from monsters. The opportunity to find the hidden monster on each page will get kids really looking at the illustrations. We end with our heroic trio -- Princess in Black, Princess in Blankets, and the Goat Avenger.

    24. (by 6.5 yo)This book is my favorite book, because there are two princesses and one boy and they all become heroes. The Princess in Blankets wanted to help people from her country because the monster kept wanting to eat pets.
