    1. Holiday Isle of the Tropics! I've taken a strong interest in everything Cuba, but most AFTER Castro. My girlfriend gave me this book as a gift and I fell in love with the old photos of hey day Havana. It was glamorous, artistic and intellectual all at once. Looks great for a coffee table or bookshelf. Pick this up for a fun historical read. It might also help to pour some rum and light a cigarette. Recommended. -JRS

    2. an amazing coffee table book filled with old photos of pre-castro cuba. the author also includes an incredible array of vintage ephemera; postcards, nightclub flyers, casino chips, and more. you really get the feel of the decadence of old havana. the reading plods towards the end when there is too much focus (for me) on the different hotels that were being built. definately something to check out from your library if you have a fascination with cuba.

    3. Great photos of people, places, and publicity accompany the text of this book, which gives a brief history of Cuba with emphasis on the Post-WWII years through 1959. Lots of campy postcards. I especially liked the photos showing hotel and restaurant decor.

    4. The authors focus is architectural but there are lots of great nuggets in here. Love all the pictures - past and present photos of hotels, streets, etc. Also great collection of memorabilia - advertisements, swizzle sticks, album artwork, etc. Great coffee table book and very informative.

    5. My grandfather was born in Havana so really taking a look at all Cuba had and how it was was pretty friggin awesome.

    6. Excellent visual resource and fascinating history written by an expert in mid-century Modern design and architecture.

    7. My parents honeymooned in Havana. This book caught my eye as I browsed my public library. I knew nothing of this little bit of history, and wow, is it interesting!

    8. A sexy & fascinating visual tour through old photos/artwork/pop-cultural & historic Havana pre-Castro memorablilia - plus, old cocktail recipes!

    9. wonderful collection of photos, art, and other visuals from pre-Castro Havana - the writing, however is so - so, written by an architect and it shows.

    10. Havana "The Paris of the Caribbean" from the 1920-1940's beautiful actual pictures historical , entertaining and political.
