I ll have to say that a number of stories here have really tight plots I really appreciate that the characters are your ordinary person walking down the street or the one living in the apartment next to yours The ones that I highlighted below are the ones that really stood out for me Take The Rats of SS2 Omgosh that was a strong opening I would actually pay money to read of the setting between the of SS2 Omgosh that was a strong opening I would actually pay money to read of the setting between the rat clan and the crow clan and their animosity A Pocketful of Pie is so relatable as someone who has been in media for a bit and is on the front lines of FB But damn shit it was gross At the same time, this story made me do a double take at the cover Very clever there, book cover artist City as a Mammary is disturbing and gripping Man, who could ever think that you can control the city with milk Nik Needs a Nik was pretty crazy as all these gangsters have really bad nicknames and we follow the main dude trying to get himself one with bad puns It s sort of like those crazy Canto movies where everything is super exaggerated and very Asian I think I need crazy stuff like this. The closing, Flush is the perfect story omgosh Girls school setting and toilet ghost Great combination Girl on girl crushes Aw yiss, this is the content I signed up for But wow shit I was really confused about who s the real ghost, excellent storytelling Look, I may not have been able to read a lot of Fixi but so far this collection that I ve come to read is a pretty solid one Also, shout out to Fixi for their RM99 for 6 books promo last year including postage which allowed me to own this gem flag Like see review Aug 29, 2017 Jaymee Goh rated it did not like it Shelves malaysian literatures, anthologies the extremities of everyday people I am not part of this audience Somewhere after a dozen stories of horrible uninspiring people doing horrible banally evil or stupid bullshit, or some sort of wish fulfilling but equally banal bullshit revenge nonsense, I had to turn to a friend for recommendations, because after the fatphobic satanist metalhead nonsense I wasn t willing to subject myself to reading any of these seriously any Not to say I hated every story I thought Woon s Rats of SS2 and Lee s concept of milk as top capitalist enslavement product were very fascinating, but I felt I wanted to see of the characters or of the settings, like there was editorial direction to be taken in order to make the stories stronger and really deliver on their premises Chong s Flush, buried at the back end of the book, is a strong finish that pulls a Sixth Sense on the reader, complete with vaguely misleading moments Nakayama s maudlin piece is a feel good, deeply sentimental piece that could stand for less heavy handed preaching, and I guess it s nice that Sagulu s story does not bury its gays flag Like see review Nov 19, 2018 Avery De Witt rated it it was amazing Shelves 2018, visually pleasing and would have less impact as a written story flag Like see review Jan 16, 2019 Jude Ripin rated it really liked it Shelves 2019 q1 challenge My first introduction to fixi novo
