    1. take my shilling. take all my shillings. [knocks on neighbor's door; when admitted, takes all said neighbor's shillings also; returns and flings them at k.j. charles in desperation]all the motherfucking shillings for youuuuuuuu(view spoiler)[that whole gabriel-because-you're-heavenly bit was so painfully dorky my boner was like to wither away to nothing and fall right off, but thankfully i was immediately given an entirely different and much more fun reason to wince extravagantly. 2. This is the same story as in the Another Place In Time anthology so if you already have that, you don't need this. If you don't This story was the first thing I wrote in the Ricardians' world as detailed in the Society of Gentlemen trilogy, where Ash and Francis (and Ash's horrible brother Lord Maltravers) are important minor characters in all three books. This story takes place about six months before A Fashionable Indulgence begins, and contains card games, unwise gambles and a certain amount [...]

    3. This is NOT a new story, and if you'd rather not wait until October I would really, really, REALLY suggest you get your hands on the anthology Another Place In Time, in which it was published in 2014.Do you know how anthologies are often hit and miss, with only 1 or 2 stories standing out? Not the aforementioned anthology. With contributors like Aleksandr Voinov, Kaje Harper, Joanna Chambers and, of course, the one and only KJ Charles, this particular anthology is quality packed. What's more, yo [...]

    4. Review written October 31, 20154 Stars - Fun, yummy sexy and adorable romanticBook #0.5Some months ago I read the M/M historical A Fashionable Indulgence by K.J. Charles and of course I enjoyed it as everything written by her pen (click and see my 3.8 stars review). This novella, The Ruin of Gabriel Ashleigh is the standalone prequel first published in a short-story collection. I'm so glad I at last got to the chance to read when it now was published to download as single ($.99) kindle book. ~ T [...]

    5. I'm thrilled that this original short story from the Another Place in Time anthology was the genesis of the "Society of Gentlemen" series by KJ Charles. This was a fun read and the stories that follow have been remarkable!I love Ash and Francisd the Ricardians are the motherload when it comes to new story potential! Even MORE BOOKS from this world, please! :)

    6. **4.5 stars**This was magnificent! And so filthy I first met Gabriel and Francis in A Fashionable Indulgence and I was fascinated. I hadn't realised that this book was previously published as part of Another Place in Time anthology! So, this shortie is basically one scene. This quote is pretty much representative of the whole story:“What will you stake?”[] “Everything.”“And what will you have me stake?”“Yourself.” Webster’s voice rasped, as if he had to force the word out. “Yo [...]

    7. I loved Ash and Francis! I've wanted their story since reading A Fashionable Indulgence, not realizing at first that there was this short already out there. This super short and sexy read was perfect. Of course, it left me wanting more because “Yourself.” Webster’s voice rasped, as if he had to force the word out. “You, over the table. Legs spread. Crying my name.” *happy sigh* This is going on my reread pile.

    8. This story is originally from the antho Another Place in Time and is sooooooooooo worth and worthy of a reread. This time around, I shall simply give you pieces of the puzzle. My original review is below.Ahem. as high in the instepCan't help it, love that phrase his potations within reasonable limitsHehubriquetStill a winner winner chicken dinner in word-landia.Good God. Ash could never have his valet take his boots off again.Sigh, them's the brakes, my dear chap. And worth the price. ;)“Ill-ma [...]

    9. “And what will you have me stake?”“Yourself.” . . . “You, over the table. Legs spread. Crying my name.”I'd give it 5 stars just for that alone! When you finish a book you loved, and then find out that there are not just two more books in the works, but also a short story you didn't know about, you'd be happy about it, naturally. Imagine realizing you already have that story You'd probably be like: Yeah, that was me when I realized I wouldn't have to wait until October to read about As [...]

    10. I actually read this in the anthology Another Place in Time and let me tell you, it's pure gold! Here is my original review from the anthology. Not sure if this has any new material or not but Yeah, see that title is making me break out in goose bumps thinking about the ruin… I really need to gather my thoughts on this one but I just can’t. Another wonderfully told story with layers I wasn’t expecting. I loved getting to know Ash as he wakes hung-over from a disastrous night where he lost [...]

    12. Yup, still raunchy. That's a game of cards I could get behind. Adore Ash and I find Francis shivery. I wish there was more. This story takes place in the Society of Gentlemen world of which the first book 'A Fashionable Indulgence' will be released on 11 August 2015. This story could be read any time but works really well as a prequel.Ash shook his head, and Francis took a handful of his hair, pulling his head back. "Gabriel. I want all of this." His other hand gripped Ash's thigh. "All of you, [...]

    13. Bad blood, cards and propositions in this debauched tale straddling the class structure. Very sexy and led to much smirking on my part.Read this as part of Another Place in Time.

    14. 4.5 starsCaptivating. Maybe I don't find roots enough to justify their mutual infatuation but the sexual tension is amazing and the sex itself is totally off the charts. Read as part of Another Place In Time Anthology.

    15. Very short and well-developed story. The characters were enchanting and their time together perfect to move the plot forward. A great example of balance.

    16. I first read 'The Ruin of Gabriel Ashleigh' in the Another Place in Time anthology and loved it. I decided to re-read it after finishing the last book in the Society of Gentlemen series last night. This short story was just as good the second time around. It's fun, romantic, and oh so sexy. Regency era strip poker gets all the stars. So does screwing over the table.Even though Francis and Ash never got a full novel (which I'm a bit bummed about!), they've definitely earned their place among KJ Cha [...]

    17. This is my original review for this short story, originally written for Another Place In Time anthology:The ruin of Gabriel Ashleigh by KJ Charles for me is a round 5 stars.Hotness overload. Really, I don't remember reading something so erotic in a long, long time. And I'm a woman who, as a very young girl, has read Erica Jong, Anais Nin, Pauline Reage and whatever. Moreover, I have read many very, very naughty yaoi manga (I was a naughty little girl LOL).So, now I'm very choosy when it comes to e [...]

    18. Our main character, Ash, is the youngest son of a Duke, not much liked by his father and TSTL. Enter tall-dark-and-hostile Explicit sex, entertaining in a very silly way. Very short, more of a plot bunny than anything else. Nice glimpse into the series, I guess

    19. Esto es un aperitivo a la Society of Gentleman, pero es un aperitivo muuuuuy hot. Me ha gustado, a pesar que sólo nos da pinceladas de la personalidad de Ash y Francis.

    20. Sadly, I wanted more Ash than this. Impressive understanding of character in a few pages, but just tooo short."It is my aim, and would be my privilege, to ruin you for all others for a very long time."

    21. 4.5/5 stars. It only loses half a star because it was so short and I'm stingy with 5 star ratings. I loved it though.

    22. Really cool start to the series. Moving right on to the first book!(I should note that I read this short from the Another Place in Time Anthology. Which I already had, but haven't really gotten around to reading it. I honestly wanted it mostly for the Charles's story. Before I knew she planned on releasing it individually later.)

    23. OMG, we will get a story about Ash!!! So excited, best surprise ever! <3 I just LOVE Ash!If you enjoy the Society of Gentlemen series you should read this asap! Such a short and hot read!

    24. Fun, but much too short. It was a nice introduction to the series, and the author managed to develop a strong relationship between the leads in just a few pages. Their dealings in the past are shown through a number of flashbacks while gambling for the titular Lord Gabriel Ashleigh's fortune, which he had lost the night before and is given one last chance to recover. And now if you'll excuse me, I'm off to start the next book in the series!

    25. Wow. Again I must reiterate, what the heck was I doing that it took me this long to discover how wonderfully awesome KJ Charles is? After devouring Think of England and The Magpie Lord and now this little gem, I MUST READ her Society of Gentlemen and A Charm of Magpies series as soon as humanly possible! [. scurrying off with my Kindle clasped to my trembling hand ]

    26. I loved this. I really liked Ash from Book 1, and this is a great addition.BUTe book ended at 67 %, which I think is the earliest a book has ever finished for me. I was REALLY disappointed, I was expecting more of Gabriel and Francis together.

    27. Naice Verrry NaiceI just love reading about young men getting ruined *evil laugh*And this was pretty sweet too, so double the pleasure. My only crib is that it's so short :P (Edited for typos *facepalm*)

    28. I read this with a stupid smile on my face. Short, sweet, sexy could you ask for more in 35 pages? I think not.
