    1. An erotic retelling of 'Beauty and the Beast', 'Depravity' proved to be far more engaging than I had anticipated. I really enjoyed the way this author changed the story up enough to make it stand out from the rest. You could definitely see the inspiration from the classic story, but the characters and unique details separated this retelling from many others. As I listened to the audiobook, I found myself swept up in Benella's day to day life. She was a fabulous heroine and easy to love. Her exist [...]

    2. I'm biased since I wrote itbut I think it's AWESOME!!! ;)The Beastly Tales was a two year project. I started writing it as a single story way back in 2013. When I saw how long it was getting, I decided to make it into a serial. But, as a reader, I don't like tiny books. So, I chucked it out into three novel sized parts. I hope everyone enjoys reading Depravity, Part 1, as much as I enjoyed dreaming it and writing itTE: The Beastly Tales are intended for mature readers.

    3. Reread December 2017, still a top read for me.Original reviewPlease excuse me a moment while I do a little happy dance because I adored this book. It's been a long time since I was as immersed in a book as I was with this one. While I found the very start slightly confusing, I was soon pulled into the world this author created. It was harsh and a bit depressing but beautiful and mesmerising at the same time.I rooted for Benella. I wanted her sisters to suffer for their deceit and selfish attitude [...]

    4. Benella lives with her father Bernard and her two sisters Bryn and Blye in a small village. Her father is the local schoolmaster wich pays just barely to keep them from starving even with the money Blye brings home as an assistant for the village seamstress. To supplement this Benella forages near the grounds of an abandoned estate that is kept under a spell and guarded by a fearsome beast wich is best avoided. But making ends meet is not her only problem as Benella also has to deal with avoiding [...]

    5. I have mixed feelings with this one. the heroine is quite admirable carrying the load to support her family. the story did have a lot of potential but several aspects kept me from truly liking it. first off some scenes read as if they were from an erotica novel but it was with secondary characters etcIt was quite strange the way the sex, hand jobs, all things sexual were portrayed. I think the main reason I didn't like this book was because the "beast" never showed any redeeming qualities. he wa [...]

    6. In true Melissa Haag fashion this was addictive, compelling and demands your full attention until you've finished and then longer. This was definitely a winner. Warning: Given an ARC, honest review and all that. Beauty and the Beast is one of my favorite fairy tales, Disney, the original, I am always on the look for beauty and the beast retellings and not even going to lie this was past all my expectations and more. I loved this and it was spectacular. The writing was fluid, it feels old-timey * [...]

    7. I received a copy in exchange for an honest review! Whoa! Any beauty and the beast lovers out there have to look at this rendition! I'm really not a fan of retellings but this has to be one of the best I have ever read. I was really nervous when I started this to see if the author was going to keep the servants cursed in the story and I believe the vines and such represent that. It's not so much the beast that is cursed but the entire staff as well.Depravity was adult minded with scenes of eroti [...]

    8. I was given an ARC in return for a honest review. I love Beauty and the Beast- It is by far my favourite story from my childhood. The story just got better and more adult. Benella will do almost anything to make sure her family doesn't go without food, she walks and searches for miles each day to find either something to eat or trade. (view spoiler)[After seeing something that she wasn't meant too, Benella becomes a victim of some of the local boys. This ends with Benella seeking refuge in the e [...]

    9. F.Y.I. I was given a copy of this book in return for an honest review. This has to be one of the best stories I've read in some time based on the classic tale, The Beauty and the Beast. Melissa Haag has a knack for creating wonderful characters we fall in love with, and then can't wait to find out what happens to them next. Benella is a gem and so is her father but her two sisters are something else. There are some pretty nasty types such as the Baker living in their village who go out of their w [...]

    10. I thoroughly enjoyed this, and quite frankly, I was not expecting to. I don't usually expect a dark indie romance novel like this one to handle the Beauty and the Beast retelling acceptably, but Depravity held its own! I would recommend this to anyone who has read the synopsis and still wants to read it. Chances are, if you're interested, you'll enjoy it!I do have to say that I think this book falls more under New Adult than Adult genre, though; however, I might find this to change within the re [...]

    11. The best revamp of Beauty and The Beast for adults! Benella is a poor girl from a starving family filled with issues of trust and love. Her sisters leave much to be desired and her father is spaced out in his own world. She travels to an estate almost daily that is guarded by The Beast. Around the walls of the estate, she finds vegetables growing that she can trade for bread or other needed items in town. Near the estate, she also discovers other worldly vegetation that she can't explain. When B [...]

    12. DISAPPOINTED sums it up. No romance and most of the characters besides Benella's father and the freaking candlemaker annoyed the crap out of me. Benella's sisters were money hoarding b****es, the beast was literally seen ONE time in the story, and Benella let everyone bully her. Definitely will not be continuing this series.

    13. Beta read. Full review to come closer to release when I reread the earc. Full review posted on BookCrushin4.5 stars out of 5.0! You may have noticed a trend in books these days; retelling of some of the oldest stories out there, whether fairy tales, Shakespeare or fables, they all take a little or a lot from the original material and spin a new novel for readers to enjoy. M.J. Haag keeps a lot of the feel of the original Beauty and the Beast but she definitely spins this tale in a way that is al [...]

    14. There's a risk involved when the first book in a series is available for free. If I like it, I know I'm going to be buying the rest of the books in the series. They always end just before the really good stuff happens, and I just HAVE to find out how it all plays out.Beauty and the Beast was my favorite of the Disney movies growing up. Belle was not that helpless princess who needed to be rescued. She looked more like me with her brown hair and eyes, and the girl loved to read! Belle was my home [...]

    15. 'Depravity' is so dark, interesting and wonderfully written that it was stupid of me to doubt the author at the beginning. I have only read Winter Queen before this and I haven't read any classic version of Beauty and the Beast; only the disney movie and another retelling of it by Sara J. Maas entitled A Court of Thorns and Roses. Haag's take on Beauty and the Beast will draw you to its unique story and will leave you to wanting for more. I assure you! While reading through the chapters, I have q [...]

    16. It's been a while since I read a book in english, and a longer time since I did a review in this language. Got the e-book on . It was ok, but I had some problems with the characters. I love retelling old fairy tales, and this one has some dark magic, twists, romance, erotic parts, but I felt like something was missing. Also I know that the time of the action is in the past and things where different, but still I hated Benella's father. He clearly is and idiot for letting the older sisters threat [...]

    17. Really disappointed. Let me start by saying that I've read all the Judgement of Six books and love them, can't wait for the next one! I was expecting that same talent to shine in Ms. Haag's new series, but sadly I feel she's gone off the rails. This book is basically, teen erotica. I realize it's being marketed as an adult novel, but teens aren't stupid. If a known YA author writes something with a 16 year old heroine, her teen following will find it and gorge themselves on it. Setting that asid [...]

    18. I was given this book as an ARC for my honest review. Melissa Haag is one of my favorite authors. Love all her books. She never disappoints. Grammar and spelling are impeccable. The story is so compelling you can't stop reading. Characters are well develop, places are well describe without being overwhelming, and the story has an easy rhythm that captures your imagination and attention, and let you waiting for what's about to happen. It feels so real you can touch it. The cliffhanger is at a perf [...]

    19. A fantastic, unique, literary retelling of the tale of Beauty and the Beast as a darkly romantic suspense and erotic thriller. It reminded me of Gregory Maguire's retelling of the Cinderella tale. What an amazing world the author has created. Not only are the protagonists fascinating but each of the secondary characters, from the cruel in his passivity father, to the villainous, selfish sisters, the ambivalent villagers, the trapped spirits of the Beast's estate, the witch who cursed him, or the [...]

    20. At A Glance I enjoyed the story a lot but it was weird. The Good I am so conflicted with this book. First off, who doesn't love a dark Beauty and the Beast retelling? And it was very dark, and very erotic without being full-blown erotica.Benella lives with her two horrible sisters and indifferent dad in a messed up village full of a-holes. Benella spends the majority of the novel trying to keep her family alive by finding and trading for food. Two village boys torment her constantly and try to [...]

    21. This is a great retelling of a classic tale, Beauty and the Beast. (I give it [the first book, Depravity] 4 not 5 stars only because the tale is chopped into 3 books.)I'll compare Depravity to Stephen King's retelling of the story of JFK's murder in 22-11-1963. Everyone (of my generation, anyway) knows all the details. Down to what Jackie was wearing and that Senator Connolly was shot, too. How could King possibly come up with a fiction tale to hold one's interest when we all know the outcome? W [...]

    22. I was given an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review. This is an adult spin based on the classic "Beauty and the Beast". I absolutely loved this book! I think it is a great beginning to the trilogy (one due in July and the other in August, I believe). I love seeing Melissa's take on this classic - it is highly addictive. I read the entire book in one sitting!Benella has to help provide for her family and stumble's into the Beast's estate (through no fault of her own). I love how resil [...]

    23. First of all this is a serial, not a series. Anyway, this first book was a perfect adult tale of Beauty and the Beast. I loved it and as much as it felt fantastical it also read as if it was real. Nope, there was no sex involved and that's fine because you know it's coming. I don't have too much of an complaint. I will finish reading the rest of this series just as soon as I can space out some of the purchases of all the other books on my account because I don't want my husband to ask me any que [...]

    24. Despite having a title that makes one think of the back shelves of a dingy bookstore, this is a delightful, entirely different, and only mildly (thru book 1) erotic retelling of the Beauty and the Beast tale. Apparently it will take three books to retell it. I'd love to call the heroine an 'action heroine' but so far, as in the original tale, the only weapons she uses are those she was born with or developed.

    25. **I was given an ARC in return for an honest review**Holy cow this is an amazing take on an old story we all love. MJ Haag pulled it off once again by drawing me in and NOT letting go had characters I loved, hated, loved to hate, rooted for, and wished horrible things on. MJ truly retold this story in a way I had never heard, very inventive and thoughtful character creation and the storyline was phenomenal!!

    26. I love Beauty & the Beast retellings. The narrative started out a bit choppy, improved as the story progressed. Mixed feelings. Lots of tropes, but it is a retelling. MC is a hardcore Mary Sue. I'm going to read the next book. I think I'm just falling for the cliffhanger, but it's quick, easy reading.

    27. A "gray" version of Disney's Beauty and the Beast. I don't indulge in this genre often although I do enjoy occasionally as a palate cleanser. This is book one in the series and in spite of zero sex and zero violence, it's a decent read if you like enchanted forests among other things.

    28. I'm surprised this book turned into a 4 star for me I went in without expectations for something great and was wrong. the story sucks you in and does the release you. the story is like Cinderella meets beauty and the beast meets poverty. it's a pretty interesting story and I may continue it

    29. Overall Rating: 2.5/5Depravity was okay.I feel like Beauty and the Beast is one of the few fairytales that gets retold over and over again and while sometimes authors bring something new to the table, Depravity didn't for me I'm afraid. Obviously it's told in three parts so I feel like I'm missing a chunk of the story and maybe it would get better but I found myself frustrated by Benella's sisters and the situations and the plot was a little slow.Maybe I'll continue with it, maybe I won't. I'll [...]
