    1. I started this book on my birthday the hottest day of the year and finished today on a miserable rainy day which summed it up . summer ends (even though I hope it hasnt yet). I had been looking forward to it.e cover is beautiful enough and it was such a lovely read. The characters were all very likeable and the descriptions of Shell Cottage and the seaside were so good it was hard to imagine you weren't actually there! I love Devon. It made me sad towards the endd without spoilers some of the de [...]

    2. I only started reading Lucy's books earlier this year, starting with The Year of Taking Chances and soon after I started One Night In Italy. I thoroughly enjoyed both of these books. Here she is again with Summer at Shell Cottage, which was another wonderful and eventful read.Shell cottage, which is in Devon, is the holiday home of the Tarrant’s, headed up by Olivia and Alec, they have two children, Freya and Robert. Alec has recently passed away and Olivia is struggling to move on, she can’ [...]

    3. The Tarrant family have always spent the summer at Shell Cottage. Many years ago, when Alec and Olivia were newly-weds, they discovered this wonderful little spot. They returned year after year, until eventually they bought it. They brought their children, who in turn, brought their own children. Shell Cottage is full of happy memories, a place to be together, to relax and forget about the stresses of everyday life. This year is different. Alec died suddenly and Olivia is bereft. She has lost her [...]

    4. Nice book to read but not really much of a story line or exciting ending more like 3 or 4 stories in one that just ended without anything really happening. Still it kept me turning the pages.

    5. I thought this book would be a nice romance type novel, however the story was dissatisfying and actually just annoyed me a little.

    6. Each time when I hear that Lucy Diamond is writing her new book, I start to count the days to the publication day. It wasn't different this time, "Summer at the Shell Cottage" has sounded so promising and inviting, and when I saw its cover for the first time, I could swoon. When it arrived on my doorstep, the reality exceeded my expectations, as the cover of my proof is just gorgeous! It has such lovely colours, and it's shiny, outside and inside! Just imagine what it means for such a sucker as [...]

    7. what a great book. the beautiful cover to the last line in the final chapter nothing disappointed meThe storyline of this family saga and how the characters evolved during there summer holiday had me gripped.Totally recommend this for a brilliant summer beach read

    8. I enjoyed this story about the trials and tribulations of the Tarrant family. So many different threads of the story and such likeable characters - I wanted each one of them to work their troubles out. Love a story set in the West Country.

    9. Originally posted on beccasbooooks/2I haven't read many of Diamond's novels, referring specifically to Lucy's earlier titles but I have, in fact, lapped up the delights of One Night in Italy and The Year of Taking Chances, both of which I thoroughly enjoyed, so when I became aware of Summer at Shell Cottage, I really couldn't wait to disappear within the pages. I suppose, in a way, it's a slightly bad habit to automatically assume that you're going to love a new novel by an author that you have [...]

    10. I regret buying this book. I honestly, shamefully bought it for its cover, and after reading the summary I thought it couldn't be so bad. Oh how wrong I was.The plot is an overdone mish mash of pointless descriptions and women-on-the-verge-of-a-nervous-breakdown cliches. Every single character, every single plot device was predictable and boring. And it was unbearably long, to make matters worse.I loathed every moment of reading this book, constantly found myself groaning at everything, especial [...]

    11. Sweet, feel-good British "chick lit," good for the beach! Perfect for a summer vacation. Felt right to read it on this side of the pond.

    12. I feel a little harsh for only giving 3 stars, but I didn’t love it enough to give it 4 stars. It was captivating in places but just not my usual cup of tea. This was more about lies and deceit than my usual romance. A nice read really just not my cup of tea I guess.

    13. Lucy Diamond only released the brilliant The Year of Taking Chances at the beginning of 2015 and here she is again with Summer at Shell Cottage which was another wonderful, and eventful, story. Shell Cottage is the Devon holiday home of the Tarrant family headed up by Olivia and Alec. Alec recently passed away and Olivia is struggling to move on, reluctant to return to the cottage this year because she can't envisage enjoying a holiday there without Alec. With a little help from son Robert she s [...]

    14. Review: this book is actually quite different from what i expected it to be. Now that isn't always a bad thing and as soon as i got a decent way through this fab novel, I forgot all about what I expected it to be and just enjoyed it for what it was. I really enjoyed this book, as I have every other Lucy Diamond book, and its a wonderful summer release because it just makes you feel like getting away from it all, somewhere for a few days in the UK, perhaps with family, perhaps not. If you can't h [...]

    15. It's because of books like this that I wish would add half-stars to their rating system. In reality, for this genre, this is a five star book. But overall, comparing it to all the other books I've given five stars to, it's a solid 4.5.This is by far the best Summer read I've come across in ages - absolutely perfect for relaxing with, whether you're beside a pool, on a beach, or sitting out in your garden. It's a story about family relationships, secrets and expectations, mistakes and forgivenes [...]

    16. This was the first book by Lucy Diamond I have read. I was attracted to it by the title and cover. I know you should not judge a book by its cover but a beauty of a cover does help get you to take a closer look. And I was not disappointed by the contents. Alec is a famous author but after receiving a phone call one day in his London home, he collapses. The family must now move on without the presence of a husband/father/grandfather. It is a few weeks after the funeral and the family annual summe [...]

    18. I started listening to this book as light relief after a Steven King thriller. It was certainly light relief but it also had very little depth and the conclusion was so long winded and predictable with all the story lines finished it was just bland.

    19. A fun family filled summer read that also deals with some serious themes, would love to see a sequel!

    20. Read this while on holiday. It's a nice book, an easy read with good characters and a fairly good plot. Loved the interaction between the women. Nice easy read, good for a relaxing holiday.

    21. I've read a few of Lucy Diamond's books lately and she's fast becoming one of my favourite authors. This book, Summer at Shell Cottage is one of my favourite reads this year. It's a story about a family, spending their first summer holiday together at their other home in Devon, after the loss of their father, Olivia's husband Alec.Olivia and Alec's daughter is there with her husband Vic, and their three children, and her brother Robert is there with his wife Harriet and her daughter Molly.Freya, R [...]

    22. Unusually for me, Summer At Shell Cottage, was a bit of a slow burner, but by a third through, I got into the swing of the story. It's a typical British beachside cottage in Devon, accidentally visited on the wedding night by Olivia & Alec who end up buying the property. They visit the cottage through the summer holidays with their children and then grandchildren enjoying lazy summer days, romping on the beach, sunbathing, barbecues and glasses of wine. The main summer in this book is totally [...]

    23. 2.8 starsI finished this book late last night and have mixed feelings about it. There were parts of this story that I enjoyed. Ultimately it had a rather sweet message about relationships and people. We are all flawed, all struggling in one way or another. We are also not alone, and we always have opportunities, if we have the courage, to make ourselves into the people we want to be. I also, more-or-less, enjoyed the characters and some of the family dynamics. However, some of what was described [...]

    24. Just what I needed, a well written, interesting read. It left me feeling content and hopeful and I just loved the writing style of Lucy Diamond and all her dynamic characters, I was quickly swept away by the story and kept turning the pages to find out the outcome. I really enjoyed this book and went straight back to the bookshelf to read another of her books.

    25. It was a good book, I read it while actually being in summer vacation in Devon for a forthnight.I enjoyed to see those different characters evolving and dealing with their own problems and how they finally solved them in the end. It was very realistic and human and it showed the importance of family bonds
