    1. Today's the day Jack finds out if he’s won the art contest, but when the mailman stops at Jack’s house, the mail flies out of his hands and into the wind. The mailman runs after it, unwittingly causing several minor catastrophes in his wake. Disappointed with the lack of mail, a moping Jack takes himself on a walk and unknowingly rights all of the mailman’s mishaps, saving children, dogs, and baby birds. A cute little story about unsuspecting heroics, the ways with which one can use a hair [...]

    2. Jack is so preoccupied wondering why he didn't win the drawing contest, that he completely misses the fact that he saves a baby from the runaway stroller, or saves a dog from crashing bicycles, or that he saves an egg that falls out of a nest, or that he blocks a soccer shot. It is a very windy day, after all, and the mailman is having trouble delivering the maileven a very important piece of mail for Jack!Used for "Oops" Storytime: November, 2011.

    3. 50 months - love the illustration style and the mailman's story depicted through illustration. May we learn from this story to never get so caught up in our own lives as to miss the world revolving around us.

    4. While Jack mopes and waits for a letter telling him if he won the drawing contest, he is unaware of the many things that are happening around him. The illustrations are delightful and are an integral part of this fun story that comes to us from the Netherlands.

    5. That is the most dedicated mailman I have ever seen! Great expressions on the sheep!I love watching all the individual little stories play out in the illustrations while Jack is caught up in his own sad thoughts.

    6. Jack is so absorbed in his own thoughts that he doesn't realize that he is helping others as he walks. This can be used to teach students how easy it is to be helpful and that there is so much going on around us when we are only concerned about ourself.

    7. The picture story is just as important than the words. The artistic style lends itself well to the windy day theme of the picture story.Pair with I am the Messenger by Markus Zusak

    8. A great story that shows how being too self absorbed can be problematic. A great discussion starter for the topic of paying attention and helping others.

    9. Upset when an important letter does not arrive in the mail as expected, Jack wanders through the park not even noticing what he is doing and becomes an unwitting hero.

    10. This book is filled with colorful pictures. Each scene has so much detail in it. With is book children can draw conclusions as to what might happen next.

    11. Teaches students to never make assumptions because you might miss out on good experiences in the mean time. Amazing illustrations!!
