    1. This book seems to have been written in order to debunk the myth that 50% of marriages end in divorce, and that Christian marriages aren't doing any better. In order to prove this myth wrong, this book is full of non-stop stats. Because of the abundance of statistics showing the truth about marriages, the author's point was really driven home. Unfortunately, because the author is making the same point over and over and over again, the read can feel a little repetitive. Either way, though, I'm gl [...]

    2. Most of you know that I love marriage. More specifically, I love being married to Ye Old Hubby. He's great. I remember during pre-marital counseling when we heard all the doom and gloom facts about marriage. We knew it would be hard, but we were committed. Now it's wonderful to hear that much of the news we heard wasn't true. It better reflects what we have experienced and makes us feel less like outliers.

    3. This presents surprising numbers on divorces vs. happy marriages. You probably don't need to read the whole book. Everything is summed up in the back of the book and at the end of every chapter. I appreciated this, because the statistics and numbers could be a bit overwhelming throughout the chapter. All in all, I'm glad I read it.

    4.  Shaunti Feldhahn with Tally Whitehead, The Good News about Marriage: Debunking Discouraging Myths about Marriage and Divorce (Colorado Springs, CO: Multnomah Books, 2014). Hardcover / KindleMarriage survives by hope. If a husband and wife believe that their relationship can get better, chances are that it will. They may have to tread a difficult path for a time, but eventually, the road becomes smoother and they arrive at their destination: a fulfilling life together.Unfortunately, many of the [...]

    5. I confess I read very little nonfiction, unless there is a specific subject I am looking up, and then I feel no obligation to read any more than what is pertinent to the subject of my research. However, since my husband and I had read For Men Only and For Women Only back in courting days, I recognized the author and decided to give this book a shot. Feldhahn's books are not based on theology or what people should do and think, but are instead a compilation of the findings of extensive surveys an [...]

    7. “If just a little bit of new knowledge can save a marriage, there are a whole lot of unnecessary divorces going on.” Shaunti Feldhahn’s new book, The Good News About Marriage: debunking discouraging myths about marriage and divorce is so full of information that is contrary to what we as a society believe about marriage and divorce. The book has research and statistics that support Shaunti’s findings, and even better, the results are actually quite encouraging. In this book, the myths of [...]

    8. After hearing for years and years how 50% of all marriages end in divorce, I couldn’t be more pleased to read the truth in Shaunti Feldhahn’s book, The Good News About Marriage. She delves into what the research and statistics actually say in order to uncover 5 myths about marriage and how the truth actually gives us hope. After all, if you only have a 50/50 chance of staying married or being happy in marriage, then whose to blame if your marriage fails? It’s easier to give up and throw in [...]

    9. I was excited when I saw who this book was by, Shaunti Feldhahn- the author of the amazing book (the book I unceasingly recommend to all my friends), For Women Only (Have you read it? You should!). The moment I received this book I dove right in and read it in one sitting .The Good News About Marriage attacks all the common (misguided or inaccurate) statistics quoted for marriage and divorce in our country. We've all heard the "50% of all marriages end in divorce," quote; all of the marriage and [...]

    10. This book attacks some of the common — though misguided, misrepresented, or just plain inaccurate — statistics quoted for marriage and divorce in our country. As it turns out, the “50% divorce rate” is much more of a projection than a fact. The current divorce rate is somewhere between 20-30%, depending on what source you use and what data the survey aimed to collect.Ever heard that the divorce rate in the church is the same as the culture? How on earth is that supposed to encourage Chri [...]

    11. We all know those ‘facts’ about marriage: half of all marriages fail, most marriages are unhappy, it takes years of painful work to fix a bad marriage, remarriages are unlikely to succeed, and Christians’ divorce rates are the same as unbelievers’. What if these ideas were not true? What if they were based on misunderstanding or incorrectly analysing the data? What if there was good news about marriage instead of bad news? -- In this book Shaunti comes up with five good news facts that r [...]

    12. If you are like me and have been quoting divorce stats of around 50% for first marriages and greater for two or more you may want to read through this. I think a lot of what they share here is true and I find that like all stats many are hard to verify. Part of my struggle with what is presented here is I am not sure that I don't feel like they have made as many assumptions in the other direction based on very limited data. She uses happy marriage stats to provide backing for her conclusions tha [...]

    13. It goes through and talks about how all the stats about divorce and failing marriages is blown out of proportion and largely untrue. I think everyone in our today should read it as everyone quotes the 50% divorce rate and this book goes through talking to researchers and the experts as well as providing details of how those numbers were conceived of, when it isn't an outright lie or there is no data to actually back up certain claims or studies.Basically, the real divorce rate for first time mar [...]

    14. Great follow-up to her previous book, Surprising Secrets of Highly Happy Marriages. We've all seen the negative headlines about marriage. But what if those simply aren't true? Feldhahn doesn't report what she wishes to be true, she actually studies and analyzes the research already available. Turns out, the actual statistics probably wouldn't sell newspapers or magazines. (Would you suspect that most marriages are happy, based on newspaper headlines? I wouldn't.)Marriage today is challenging. Th [...]

    15. Book Review: The Good News About Marriage: Debunking Discouraging Myths about Marriage and Divorce by Shaunti Feldhahn - a Christian oriented social science book about why most of the common wisdom around marriage (divorce rates, happiness, etc.) are actually wrong and the real numbers are much better than what we think. Good resource and documented research. That being said, I am not sure most people really need to read this. The basic idea would be pretty well documented in a magazine length a [...]

    16. This is another one of the books that influenced me as I worked on Courtship in Crisis: The Case for Traditional Dating. When I am on the radio talking about dating and courtship I often recommend to the producer that they need to bring on Feldhahn to talk about The Good News About Marriage. Word needs to get out that most marriages DON"T end in divorce and that church goers tend to have happy lifelong marriages. If you still buy into the urban myth that 50% of marriages end in divorce then you [...]

    17. I was thoroughly excited about reading this book by well known author Shaunti Feldhahn and it did not disappoint! Almost all of the marriage and divorce myths are ones that I have heard and many which I believed and I loved how she used hard evidence and the very statistics we quote to break down what is really going on.I really believe this is a book that anyone who is marriage or plans on getting married needs to read, realizing that marriage is not struggling as much as we think and how we ca [...]

    18. Every Pastor needs to read a copy of this book!!The actual divorce rate is not even close to the percentages that are talked about. The divorce rate is pretty much around 35%.Contrary to the tale that divorce rates are the same for Non-Christians and Christians, they are really not even close. If a husband and wife are if like faith and regularly attend church the divorce rate is not higher than 10%.Get this 70% of women are still married to their first husband. This should give us GREAT encouragem [...]

    19. This was a really interesting book! I love books debunking common myths that aren't actually based on research. In this case, the book debunks the myths about "50% of all marriages end in divorce", "being religious doesn't improve marriage rates," and "most intact marriages aren't even happy." Turns out there isn't research to back these myths up, and they are mostly based on projections that never came true or skewed Census data that only looked at people who married young (the book explains th [...]

    20. Finally, someone does their research and debunks that terrible myth that Christians divorce at the same rate as everyone else! I knew that wasn't true where I minister but believed it to be true nationwide because that was what I heard reported. I am a big believer in marriage and this book will help me put some reliable research into people's hands to encourage them to not only marry, but to work through the rough spots.

    21. Wow! What an encouraging book! It is so wonderful to hear from someone who has not only looked at the actual data in studies on marriage, but looked into what the number represent to give us a better picture of the state of marriages in America. To read things like the rate of divorce is no where near 50% and that 80% of couples are truly happy not only encouraged me within my own marriage but gives me great hope for the future of my children.

    22. Not what I expected - all this book is about is spewing a lot of statistics about marriage/divorce rates from study after study after study. Very boring. Did not go into the reasons for good or lasting marriages except a lot about church, faith, prayer, etc. I found this book to be just a waste of time.

    23. Loved it! Encouraging to hear the divorce rate is closer to 25% than 50%.A lot of statistics to back up her claim. It was great.Definitely a good read if you are discouraged with the thought that a lot of marriages end in divorce. The numbers are a lot lower than often cited.Marriage is hard, however it's not supposed to be impossible. It's fun.

    24. I thought this was an excellent book. The authors acknowledge that marriage and divorce statistics are hard to locate and define, but they do a very good job showing that the bad statistics we have always heard are false. There really is an expectation that marriages will last, that most marriages are happy and that, even after a divorce, a happy marriage can be in your future.

    25. Really wanted to like this book but it should have been a blog post more than anything. The basis and thoughts are great but it all boils down to a bunch of numbers and statistics repeated constantly mixed with a reference to some other book by the author that they want you to "pick up." Wish they would have moved past just present the stats and dug into the heart of some of the issues.

    26. This book will help you to see that marriage as designed by God still works! It will also teach you by example why all statistics should be viewed with skepticism. Learn the truth, and encourage others with it.

    27. Interesting statistics. I do think that there needs to be some real work with the statistics in regards to marriage and divorce (and remarriage). I wrote more about this book at stevenlamotte/2015/02/24/bo

    28. Challenges some long held days points regarding marriage and divorce (i.e. the statement that 50% of marriages end in divorce). Good use of the 3 hours I spent worth my son at the urgent medical care facility.

    29. What a marvelous book. If you read all the rhetoric about the futility of getting married, it is discouraging. But the facts show that most marriages succeed and are happy. This is a very encouraging book and hopefully it will change the anti-marriage misinformation. Quick read, lot of information.
