    1. An intriguing tale filled with too much excitement to control, that's what LaVerne Clark's Beyond the Shadows is all about. This book with that paranormal twist is definitely going to keep you on your edges.Thank you LaVerne Clark for providing me with an e-copy of your book in return for an honest review.Kelly Appleton, a tall, beautiful and tough cop who's head over heels in love with her co-partner, Nathaniel O’Leary, who's terribly hot and unfortunately doesn't like relationships. When Nat [...]

    2. LaVerne Clark has moved into writing larger books with Beyond the Shadows, and doesn't disappoint. Strong writing, and an intriguing story draw the reader in right from the start. I loved that the Kelly was a tall and capable young woman, and that the Nate isn't intimidated by her. I also loved how she didn't give up on him. The paranormal aspect of the story was well done and I completely bought into it. I found Nate's continued connection to his sister to be touching. HOw difficult it must be [...]

    3. Once again, LaVerne Clark has me dreaming of visiting New Zealand!I loved the main characters in 'Beyond the Shadows', Auckland Police officers Nate O'Leary and Kelly Appleton. After Nate is shot during a drug bust, Kelly, becomes his carer and moves in with him for a few weeks. They bump heads on many issues and their growing attraction heats up page by page. Both characters are strong and stubborn, but Kelly's heart really shines through. Nate is more of a loner, and has been hiding his demons [...]

    4. Let me just begin by saying that I love novels that are set in New Zealand and Australia. So when I came across this novel I thought I was in for a treat. Instead it turned out to be a disappointing read. I know this is a work of fiction; however, I found a lot of what took place to come across as unbelievable, even ridiculous at times. Kelly volunteers to take time off from work to help her partner, Nate, during his convalescence 24/7. What? He couldn't hire a nurse? I'm sure the police force w [...]

    5. Constable Kelly Appleton and her partner Nate O`Leary is out patrolling with a TV crew in the back when all hell breaks loose and Nate end up shoot and gravely wounded. Kelly that has a huge crush on her partner is at his side in hospital like a shadow. She then take on the responsibility of his rehabilitation when he is released from hospital and moves into his apartment for a week. This is a real hard situation when she is in love with him and he doesn’t do relationship. The sexual tension i [...]

    6. Solid 3.5 StarsI quite enjoyed this unique adult paranormal story. There were ghosts, serial killers, sexy cops ( Nate and Kelly), and the hunt for a killer before someone else ends up dead. When all of those things are wrapped up into one story, you have the components of greatness.First the likes: Kelly. A kick ass female Heorine cop who is a strong enough to take tough guy cop Nate down a notch. If Kelly wasn't a great strong character the relationship dynamic with Nate wouldn't have worked. [...]

    7. If you like your hero of the silent, tough, brooding kind, meet Constable Nathaniel O’Leary who happens to be hot, tattooed and walks a fine line with the law.And if you like your heroine just as tough, capable of surviving in a male-dominated environment without losing her femininity and challenges the hero, meet Constable Kelly Appleton.Set in Auckland, New Zealand, LaVerne Clark unveils paranormal elements, powerful dialogue and well-crafted scenes with great sexual tension and emotion to d [...]

    8. I'm an American. Ms. Clark is from NZ. I not only enjoyed this book, but got an education as well. I had no idea NZ cops don't carry guns, only tazers. That's crazy! Or maybe it's kind of sad that American cops would be wiped out in a matter of months if they didn't carry guns.As for the book itself, Beyond the Shadows was a suspenseful thrill ride from beginning to end with a gripping romance thrown in for good measure. Ms. Clark's villain is reminiscent of the scary, three dimensional kind Dea [...]

    9. I've read all of LaVerne's offerings, and she is definitely getting better with each publication. Beyond the Shadows is a dark tale, with light hearted moments. Above all, it is a romance, but the true twist in the tale is the demented serial killer that they thought they had already imprisoned. LaVerne's characters are all such deeply disturbed, but likeable, except maybe the serial killer - I wanted to like him, but he was evil, and she captured that so nicely in her work, without all the grap [...]

    10. Nate, a closed-up cop is grievously wounded, requiring Kelly, his partner to become his caregiver. She carries a long-time secret attraction to Nate, and he’s buried a lust for her. Living together creates heat they can barely hide. It’s a copycat series of murders that raises questions about an old case Nate thought he’d solved. Now in his vulnerable state he has vivid dreams about where he erred on the case and how he might be putting the lives of loved ones, including Kelly, in peril. H [...]

    11. I enjoyed reading this book for a few different reasons. One being the difficult male character, but a guy that you end up liking, another being the beautiful female, who is also a kick-ass cop, and another reason being the story itself. I liked how this story played out. The characters are pretty good. I liked the steamy parts as well. I think this book is well written.

    12. I got this one last year as a freebie and the plot attracted me very much, police procedural, romance, supernatural, yay ! Unfortunately, the book wasn't up to the good reviews on GR.First problem : both of them weren't such good cops, they made at least three big mistakes - but I'm not spoiling, though I'd love to.Second problem : she wants him, he doesn't want her ; she doesn't want him, he wants her ; and so on. Tedious.Third problem : the villain, religious fanatic. At the beginning, I thoug [...]
