    1. Another fun visit with my favorite blue feline.Pete the Cat can’t decide what to wear to school. Everyone chimes in— even Pete’s Mom and brother-- with his or her favorites. Wear this and that, Pete. Resulting in a very un-Pete like outfit. Haha….Colorful and funny, but just not Pete.A tale that teaches readers to always remember to “Just be you.” I love that Pete evolved into Easy-Reader books. Sometimes using a character that children know and recognize from picture books will help [...]

    2. Pete's asking everyone what to wear? If he's asking his teacher, where is he getting his clothes from? Is his teacher at his house? Does Pete bring his clothes to school? The title is a bit off putting, I don't want any child to think they are too cool for school. Yikes! The saving grace for the book are the illustrations and the repetitive phrases. I think the publishers must be riding the coat tails of this character which is very sad. If you are going to publish such a book, make it a great o [...]

    3. Another pedantic book from the Pete the Cat people. I've said before that once Eric Litwin relinquished control, the quality of the books have plummeted. It's the first day of school and Pete isn't sure what to wear. Different people tell him what is their favorite and he puts the corresponding item of clothing on. By the end, he's got all of his clothes on and is quite hot. He takes it all off and puts on his favorite clothes.

    4. 3.5 starsNormally, I don't like these early reader Pete the Cat (they aren't as good as the Originals), but this one was pretty cute! It is all about being your self.! And I really enjoyed saying in a weird southern drawl "It's my favorite!!"

    5. Synopsis: "Pete the Cat can't decide what outfit he should wear to make him look cool for school. He has so many colorful choices in his closet to choose from, how will he decide on one?In this hilarious I Can Read tale, Pete learns it's not what you wear, but how you wear it that makes you cool."My Review: I figured this would be a great book to kick off the school year for Munchkin. This was a fun book for beginning readers with a lot of simple words and sentences and a lot of sight words and [...]

    6. I Can Read! I liked that this book was repetitive enough that the kiddo's reading will be able to read it, but that it introduces new words each page to make it actually interesting. That's a hard thing to do for an easy reader! It also has a cute moral at the end of being yourself.

    7. Pete is getting ready to start school and can't decide what to wear. Everyone wants him to wear soemthing differn't. Can he figure out the best outfit? cute and love the sense of identity. preschool and up

    8. Pete listens to what everyone else says he should wear to school. In the end, he decides to be himself and wear his favorite clothes.

    9. A great beginning reader book with lots of repetition and simple words. The message about being yourself is also a positive one for kids.

    10. Too cool for school was a quick read. Words that hope could understand and relate to. She could follow along with the plot.

    11. They have a read along option through our library through the computer. The read a long book, automatically turns the virtual pages; and it highlights the words. My four year old nephew is starting to recognize words. So that is why I gave these books five stars. He loves these books and wants to read more and more.

    12. I love ready Pete the Cat books. They rhythm and have really good illustrations. I used to read Pete the Cat book to my toddler students and this one was their absolute favorite. These books are not only good for the really young children but they are also perfect for elementary students to read by themselves. They can definitely keep an elementary student attention when reading.

    13. Booklist (May 1, 2014 (Online))Preschool-Grade 1. What should I wear?” asks Pete, who wants to look cool. Everyone he asks suggests a different part of his wardrobe, from his mother’s favorite, “your yellow shirt,” to the school bus driver’s favorite, “your polka dot socks.” After trying on three shirts, he adds long pants, short pants, socks, boots, a striped tie, and a baseball hat. A double-page spread shows Pete wearing this assembled outfit and asks, “Does he look cool?” K [...]

    14. This Is One of Our FavoritesWe like the Pete the Cat books, which are part of Harper Collins' "My First Level, I Can Read!" series. Pete may not be as well known as Little Critter, Biscuit, Fancy Nancy, or the Berenstain Bears, but he has a kid-size groovy vibe that bests those slightly aging franchise bedrocks.Unlike some of the "I Can Read" books, the Pete books usually have a complete story, with a clear beginning, a couple of developments in the middle, and then a satisfying ending. I like t [...]

    15. Categories/Genres for this class fulfilled by this book: Easy Reader, Picture Book, Humorous Fiction, Animal Fiction, Personification/Fantasy, Fable, SeriesEstimate of grade level of interest: PreK-2Estimate of reading level: Later kindergarten Brief description: On Pete’s first day of school he wants an outfit that is just right; for this, he takes advice from everyone, but eventually decides on his own favorite. Identify at least 2 characteristics of this genre and subgenre and discuss how t [...]

    16. I'm afraid Pete and I are going to have problems. Pete wants to look cool, so he gets the opinion of lots of people all of whom advise him to wear different things. (So far so good.) when Pete is decked out in the motley assortment we are asked does he look cool? The answer is "No, Pete looks silly." Well I don't really think he does. In a perverse way, because he's wearing an odd assortment it doesn't look like he cares, which perversely makes him look pretty cool to me. When he's wearing his ' [...]

    17. Pete wants to please everybody, so he asks around to find out what he should wear to school. Problem is, everyone likes something different. By the time he leaves his house he's wearing three shirts, a pair of pants, a pair of shorts, a tie, a baseball cap, and, well, just about everything else in his closet. When he realizes that depending on others for his own taste is a bad idea, he decides to pick out his own outfits from then on. "If you want to be cool," he realizes, "just be you!"Students [...]

    18. Pete wants to look cool so he asks everyone what to wear. He puts on all of the clothes everyone suggests at the same time and he looks quite silly. And he is too hot! He goes home and puts on his favorite clothes. If you want to be cool, be your self!My daughter is going through a "pretty" phase right now where she needs to do things to be beautiful. Where is she even getting this crap! Certainly not from me. I always try to tell her that being pretty isn't about clothes, hair, or anything else [...]

    19. The best part of the book is the last page. It brings the whole message of the book together, I think this message is very important for kids to learn at a young age, we like to promote more leaders and less followers. 1. Why do you think Pete kept changing his clothes throughout the book?2. If you were Pete would you have felt different at the end of the book then you did at the begining of the book?3. what did the other characters have in common by what they said?4. what did pete say many time [...]

    20. Pete the Cat books are always fun and we look forward to reading them! This one isn't the best we've read but it's not on the bottom of the pile either. Pete the Cat asks others what their favorite thing he could wear to school to make him look cool everyone has something different they like. So he puts everything one that they all like; he thinks he looks silly and is getting hot. So he takes everything off and decides to put on what is HIS favorite and HE thinks he looks cool! So he wants read [...]

Everyone has a different clothes item to suggest he wear, if he wants to look cool. But Pete looks silly when he wears everyone's suggestions. This book is great for children in Kindergarten who are just beginning to read independently. It has an awesome message about being cool with yourself before worrying about what others think.
