I think all good writing starts with one small idea that you can t let go of.I am a grammar snob in some cases I cringe at the rampant misuse of nauseous and lay but not in other cases I fully admit to saying the n other one and I don t think sentences need to be complete I love it when people give me modern books by new authors Otherwise I would live in Charlotte Bronte s world forever.Samples of my writing and blog are on my website hayleylinfield.webs

    1. If this book had a theme song, it would be Miranda Lambert's "The House That Built Me". It's equally sweet and devastating, happy and sad, and full of incredible wisdom. You will find a little bit of ALL of that on each and every page of this book (and it's kind of how I feel when I listen to that song). This is the story of Mara, both present and past. We get to see her live her life as a direct result of everything that has happened to her as a child. She makes terrible decisions and has paral [...]

    2. What a beautiful, amazing story.First I want to say it seems you can read this book here on . I was given a copy to review, though, in exchange for an honest opinion. The book is quite long and there's a lot going on.I had a couple of concerns reading this. One, it seemed to have a lot of potential to be something more than your typical NA novel, but I feared (as is the case lately) it wouldn't own up to that potential.I'm glad to say it was so much more. The second bit that worried me was the rel [...]

    3. Somehow I'm allowed to review my own book, but what the heck? I tried to write a fun yet thought-provoking novel. A little bit chick-lit, a little bit dark, a little bit literary. And unlike my heroine, I'm not a slut.

    4. This is a really thoughtful, thought provoking and deeply spiritual book. Funnily enough the main character doesn’t want anything to do with religion due to the way she was raised but it’s the journey that made it spiritual for me not her thoughts on religion. And Mara’s journey was intense. She figured out very early in childhood that she couldn’t trust anyone, that everyone leaves, that she wasn’t worthy of love. It was intense reading what she was trying to do to fill that void and h [...]

    5. *Copy provided by the author in exchange for an honest review*I want to start off by saying that this book is on the list of one of the most well edited, well written and well plotted self-published books I've ever read. The Truth About Dandelions blew my expectations out of the water. It made me laugh, it made me cry, it made me think and it made me want more. I can't even properly express my feelings without giving away much of the book. There are so many little things, like the truth about dan [...]

    6. wow!, just wow!, I really loved this book. This book will steel your heart. It took mine from the first chapter. I am so glad I got the chance to read this book. It is a story about a little girl who looses everything she loved at a really young age. I love how the author switches from the passed to the present. This book talks about everything the main character went through as a young age, and how it is affecting her now. I couldn't put this book down. I had to think about writing this review [...]

    7. *i received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review*I found it very difficult to finish reading this book. I think that the reason that I could not get into this book was the main character Mara. She had a pretty rough childhood, but instead of trying to make her life better she made it worse. I felt like she met someone special in Jack and then blew it (twice!). She was just really aggravating to me. Although I didn't enjoy the story, I did like the authors style of writing. I woul [...]

    8. I love this book! Although the story does have some chick-lit attributes it's much more than that. The highest praise I can give a novel is that I can't guess what's going to happen and that's certainly the case with The Truth about Dandelions. I couldn't put it down. Hayley Linfield is a really great writer and I loved her deeply flawed protagonist, Mara. This is an excellent book and I hope you read it.

    9. LOVE this book!!! Couldn't put it down! This book is the reason I fell in love with reading. It was so well written, awesome character development. I don't have a bad thing to say about it. You MUST grab this book and read it! You will fall in love with like I have! You evokes you the reader to use your mind and delve into deep thoughts about love and life. It is a brilliant piece of literature.I won this book as a good reads first reads winner.

    10. This novel took me by surprise. A co-worker handed it to me, and out of courtesy I took it and promised to read it without high expectations. From the jacket synopsis I was prepared for your standard coming-of-age story featuring a damaged but plucky heroine coming to grips with the demons of her past and triumphing against all-odds with a little Canadiana sprinkled liberally throughout. And thats pretty much what it was, except for the standard part. This novel did what it did really well. Techi [...]

    11. I was given a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review, and I am happy to say that I adored this book. The Truth About Dandelions is thought-provoking, the editing is flawless (which, for being self-published, is rare!), and I honestly formed a strong connection to the story and the characters right off the bat -- which only strengthened as the plot thickened.Mara, Mara, Mara what to say about this girl? The main character, Mara, is a MESS. I typically have a weakness for characters wi [...]

    12. I received a copy of this book for an honest review. This book really took me by surprise and I slowly fell in love with it. The author does an incredible job of weaving the main character Mara's, past and present allowing the reader to really understand her character. I found the story to be deep and thoughtful. I felt like I went on a journey with Mara discovering her as a child who has been abandoned by her parents to a college student who is spiraling out of control, by using sex to numb her [...]

    13. Ok so I finally finished this book. And I enjoyed it a lot. Mara was complex. She had a life full of tragedy at a very young age. She was the daughter of a not so righteous pastor. Which made her feel and think about things very negatively When things in your life constantly go wrong when your young. It truly affects your life. Especially when your going through things you just don't understand. I enjoyed the story. I enjoyed the writing. The truth about dandelions was a great read. A coming of [...]

    14. 4 fantastic freaking starsWhat to say how to say it??? People, go buy this book and READ IT. Am not going to tell you about the story because it is something you discover on your own. Mara, the protagonist is a damaged girl, but has a beautiful spirit that kept me riveted throughout the book The books that dazzle you are often the books that you think are ordinaryHayley Linfield is a talented author and I simply love her style of writing.I was provided with a free copy for a honest review of thi [...]

    15. At first I wasn't sure I could connect with the protagonist, Mara, but the further I got into the story, the more I was drawn in. Hayley crafts her story with wonderful detail, attention to character development, and a strong ability to draw the reader along on Mara's journey to finding herself, and discovering just who she is. Well done Hayley. I'll look forward to reading more from you in the future.

    16. I received a free copy of this book from First Reads. I was expecting to like it, but I did not expect to LOVE it! I loved how Mara, the main character, felt like a REAL person and it isn't very often I come across dialogue that is that true to life. I appreciated the writing. All in all this was an extremely interesting read that I would definitely recommend!

    17. This book highlights the damage that grief can do to a person and lack of acceptance. Until Mara accepted she had issues, was she able to love, and by-pass the difficulties in her life. The scenery settings and timelines, are well documented. So are the emotions and problems that are hidden within Mara. A novel well worth reading by all sexes. I enjoyed it immensely.

    18. I hardly read books, thought I'll try this one. Have to say it is a good book. Love the way the book starts off, it is like one of them awesome action movies with an amazing action scene that draws you in from start to finish.

    19. I really enjoyed this book!!! Dark in the sense of "taboo" behavior, but our heroine had such original thoughts was hard not to love her and stay on her journey. My full review to be found on TRC next month!!!

    20. 3.5 StarsThis was an interesting read. I'm not sure how I'm going to properly articulate how this book made me feel but here goes nothin'! The first thing that drew me to the book was the setting. For the most part it's based in Ottawa ON Canada and I'm an Ottawa native and still live there! It is VERY rare to find a book with Ottawa as the primary location so I was really curious about this book based on that alone. Linfied has definitely lived in this city (or has at the very least stayed in O [...]

    21. 3.5 stars. ARC received in exchange for an honest review, thanks to the New Adult Book Club Read it/Review it board.I'm a bit conflicted by this book. I have to say, objectively it seemed very good, but it didn't totally grab me so I can't say I loved it. Mara is an interesting character, and the way the book is written is also very interesting. For the whole of part 1 I thought it was going to be a very different book, but then I realised it was just a longer-than-usual back-story, and the real [...]

    22. THE TRUTH ABOUT DANDELIONS, by Hayley Linfield was a unique read that was filled with literary references and religious beliefs. I’m having a hard time coming up with the proper words to convey my feelings. BUT one thing was for sure, Mara could not catch a freaking break! The poor girl suffered one loss after another and yeah, she became a flipping mess, but who could blame her? The religious aspects in this book were a bit heavy at times and at the beginning I was concerned that it would be [...]

    23. *Received book in exchange for honest review*I loved this book. I really like how by intertwining the main characters present and past, we come to an understanding of why she acts as she does and why she is so flawed. I think this is a great coming of age story, just coming around late in life. Mara has a tough childhood with a mother that was murdered (by a bayonet no less) by a homeless man, a father that not only abandoned her but cheated on his wife and then became a drunk and leaped in fron [...]

    24. ******* I RECEIVED THIS BOOK IN EXCHANGE FOR AN HONEST REVIEW *********I signed up to review this book as part of the New Adult Book Club, because the synopsis appealed to me.Mara has lost her way - she is not so much 'on' the path to self destruction, but rapidly approching the finish line on that path.Mara is at University in Ottawa, where she has been studying for the last 3 years. She is in a downward spiral, going out, getting drunk and trawling bars and clubs for guys to sleep with, not ca [...]

    25. I received a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. The Truth about Dandelions is a very emotional book that addresses some very serious issues. There were a few things that I had difficult connecting with, although not major. First, the conversation took place by sharing a lot of what Mara was thinking. Through half of the book I thought that she had a different name when it would address "when she was Mara". However, later discovered that was not the case. No one ever called her b [...]

    26. *I was given a copy for an honest review. This is a story of a bitter girl named Mara who has suffered great loss and in turn appears to be a lost soul. "I used to know her, but that was before I lost myself." This was a very dark and tragic story but was written so well that you see through Mara's bitterness into her hopefulness that she's not even sure she has."Hope was dangerous. If you lived with hope, you ran the risk of devastation."Mara was raised to be a very spiritual girl, but because o [...]

    27. I received this book from the author for an honest review. To be honest, it was not until after the first 20-30% of the book that The Truth about Dandelions captured me. I struggled in the beginning of the book. It was not due to the writing. The writing was fine. I struggled with our heroine's voice. Then as I continued reading, I realized the self-hate that the heroine, Mara, projected throughout the story is what really made this book so fascinating. Mara understands what she is doing to herse [...]

    28. This was given to me in return for my honest review, thanks to the author. This was a beautiful story about finding yourself and learning to love yourself.Mara came from a broken home and suffered great loss as a child. As she grew she shut herself out from any real relationships and escaped her thoughts by going to bed with many random men. Until she meets the one man who won't allow her to "escape". They fall in love but,of course fate hands Mara another blow and her relationship with him can n [...]

    29. **I was given a copy of this book by the author in return for an honest review** For me, I had a hard time getting into Mara's story at first. I was put off by the religious subtext as I generally do not read those types of books. As with every book, I gave t the benefit of the doubt and continued reading. I am glad that I did. Yes religion or spirituality was a common theme of this book, it was not overwhelming. Instead it was thought provoking. My favorite parts of this book were the scenes wi [...]
