    1. In case the title does not give it away evidently enough, "Redshirts" is a book by a science fiction fan and for science fiction fans. Not that "layman" readers will not enjoy it, but they certainly will lose many inside jokes and twists (such as, for example, the "beyond the 4th wall" reference to Star Trek in the title). That said, I found the book enjoyable, its read left me with a nice taste in my mouth and no feelings of wasted money, but it certainly is not one of those books I'll ever reme [...]

    2. Redshirts, which could have been called Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Hijack the Ship to Cuba, features an endearing premise that Scalzi admits (in these same pages) has been visited before by other authors in a variety of media, that a character in a work of fiction gains awareness of the "Narrative" dictating their actions, and tries to understand or change their fate.If that isn't meta enough for you, the later sections of the book only take this to excess. This book was published by Tor. Wi [...]

    3. Redshirts (2012) didn’t knock my socks off. My expectations were probably unrealistically high. I loved the idea of a parody of the TV show Star Trek–The Original Series (1966-1969), which is why I read this book. The redshirted security guys on Star Trek had a short life span. I love Galaxy Quest (1999), a parody movie of Star Trek. The parody book Redshirts isn’t as good as the Galaxy Quest movie. The book’s story is told third person, past tense, from Andrew Dahl’s point of view. Of [...]

    4. This book made me laugh out loud which is rare.Ever wonder what it would be like on a starship like the Enterprise? Where the crew members FEAR going on away team missions because someone ALWAYS dies? Or why some bridge crew members get beaten extremely bad once a week only to be in perfect health the next? Or how in the vast expanse of the Universe a terrorist your ship is ordered to stop just so happens to be a former Academy roommate? What are the odds?Well a group of new crew members slo [...]
