    1. This was the first filipino novel I've read at that time. I was aflight from New Jersey en route Manila. It was tough for me to read because I needed to keep rereading lines just so they're understood, though that gave me the leisure to actually absorb the depth of its characters, political issues, and social issues. 2. 3. I read it after watching the filmjust want to see how the novel was translated to film. was disappointed that the nuances of meaning found in the novel form is lost. well, it really is meant for the screen and not for readingi was just expecting it to be like glass menagerie and other classic plays that still retain their magic even if just read.
