Oddly enough, for every time I found myself saying 'this training plan is too easy', I later thought 'huh, that sounds brutal'.     11. After following the Hanson's training program, I ran a PR in the Phoenix Marathon in January! While the "traditional" long, slow distance approach is still a good choice, the Hanson method emphasizes more tempo and speed work and only running up to 16-18 miles for the longest training run. For me, this approach was much less stressful on the legs and knees and kept my weekly mileage consistent each week since I did not the fatigue associated with running 18+ miles at a time. It incorporates easy runs, speed training, tempo runs and long runs; the difference is it calls for 6 days of running, forcing you to run on tired legs for your long run which in turn allows you to build more physical and mental endurance by running in a fatigued state.     13. I learned a lot from the first part of the book about the physiology of running. The authors repeatedly insist that their method is based on scientific research, but I would have liked to hear more specifics about this. There's little doubt that it has worked for many runners, for sure, but I can't get over the 16 mile long run. Still, I'll be integrating many components from the program into this season's training plan.

The plan is posted on their website but I decided to read this toomewhat interesting reading the philosophy. the idea is the typical long run is generally too much and should only be 20% of weekly mileage. At 60ish miles per week max long run is 16 miles. I've read other running books so the technical content is similar. close to Daniels plan but each run is simpler than daniels. as a read goes I liked it better than daniels [...]

    17. I’m not following this plan but I got what I needed out of the book. It was very educational, supplementing what I already know through my Exercise Science background and adding a larger running component to my knowledge. I will continue to return to certain aspects of this book as I am currently within marathon training. I will let you know how it turns out for me in 10 more weeks!

    18. My good friend Thomas Freeman recommended the Hanson marathon training program. This book provided an excellent description of the program. I particularly appreciated the information on the physiology of the muscles and cardiovascular system and how the system builds these up to allow you to run a marathon at your desired pace.

    19. The Hanson's training methods have a somewhat controversial reputation, and people have been touting this as a good program for beginners. I'm not so sure about that. 6 days of running in a row before a rest day would probably be too much for new runners, but for runners who were already running 5ks and 10ks and are now ready to step up to the marathon, it just might work for them. None of this "just get out and run". Your training plan is structured and it is pretty heavy duty.     25. I read this book looking for specifics on paces to run each type of workout, particularly for speed workouts, and was disappointed. While paces were included, they were how long you should run each distance, for example 2 minutes for 400m, 3 minutes for 600m, etc. This is helpful after you've finished the distance, but not while you are running to try to determine if you are on track.
