And finding this out when you're 32 years old can throw you for a loop. Add in an inheritance of millions of dollars and and a new found family let's just say Kara had a lot on her plate. So fa [...]

    2. I won this book in a giveaway I'll be honest. I didn't like it. Not one bit. Not even the tiniest bit. Not the plot, not the characters, not the cardboard "villains", not the writing. I don't give it a lower rating because one star ratings are only for books that I completely loathe and this book, while terrible and extremely boring and frustrating and cringe worthy and, ahem! It's not on my hate list. And that's all I'll say, before I starting ranting. So, maybe you'll find something great in thi [...]

    3. I received this book free through First Reads.Kara Newell is a social worker in New York on the verge of burnout when she gets a summons from a lawyer to attend the reading of a will of a man she has never met before. Suddenly this paycheck to paycheck gal has inherited a large historical plantation and a humungous bank account from the biological dad she never knew about. Not everyone is pleased with the results of the will reading and her late father’s lawyer asks the local sheriff, Jeff Ha [...]

    4. I loved this. Kara finds out she has a family she never knew about. Plans to stay for only a week. Meets Jeff and thinks maybe she could stay a little longer. Both have reasons not to want a relationship. Loved the characters and the small-town feel of the island. I’d read others in the series.

    5. I was completely blown away by the time I finished reading this book. It was completely different then I thought it would be. It also proved that one single woman can change the minds of a lot of people just by being who she is. Kara is a social worker in New York City. She recently learned that she is the daughter of a multi-millionaire. She leaves her home in the big city to move to her new home on an island off the coast of South Carolina. She is determined to live there just long enough to [...]

    6. The first thing that attracted me to this book was the cover! How adorable that tea cup Yorkie is. Looks just like my little fellow. I knew right away I was going to enjoy this book. I was right!!!!I fell in love with the book and could not stop reading it. I think I will go take a trip there this summer. LOL That's How warm and welcoming the story made me feel at times .The characters were wonderful with all their quirky ways! Like in any small place there were tons of gossipers living there, a [...]

    7. Kara Newell gets a call asking her to come to South Carolina for the reading of a will. When David Sullivan, the lawyer, reads the will, she is told that Taylor Patton was her father, and has left her nearly everything he owned, with a few conditions, including restoring Angels Landing and live there for five years. She agrees to stay for a week and then decide what to do with her inheritance. Jeffrey Hamilton is David’s cousin. David asks him to check on Kara because the rest of the Patton fa [...]

    8. This is the 2nd Book of the Cavanaugh Island Trilogy and i enjoyed it as much as the 1st one. Anything to do with history of the AA and especially the Sea Islands I enjoy.

    9. Great readingI really enjoyed this book. The story line was great, moving at a good pace. Because I was a proofer, I was glad to see only a few grammatical errors.

    10. Angels Landingby Rochelle AlersGenre: romanceSoft cover, 349 pagesPublished 2012 by Foreversetting: modern day Cavanaugh Island, South CarolinaKara Newell is a burned-out social worker in New York City. She is planning to take her long over-due vacation when she receives a mysterious summons to attend a will reading in Charleston, SC. The attorney verifies that it is no mistake, so she makes a slight detour on her way home. "It's nice meeting you, Mr. Sullivan."David inclined his head. "Same her [...]

    11. The story of this book definitely locked me in. Such a good story line with a beautiful backdrop setting. Maybe because I read it at the start of winter but definitely had me longing for summer and a beach!

    12. Angels Landing is the first book I've read by Rochelle Alers. It is very intriguing, and I found that it piqued my interest enough for me to want to learn more about the Lowcountry and the Gullah culture. The romance between Sheriff Jeff Hamilton and Kara Newell was a good one too. The easy fall into love was symbolic of the slower paced lifestyle Kara finds herself in when she gets to Angels Landing from New York. I liked the mysterious nature of the reasons why she came to the island as well. [...]

    13. Love in the Low CountryCountry girl turned city slicker, Kara Newell never expected that she would spend any of her vacation any other place other than visiting her parents. However, when she is summoned to the Low Country of South Carolina to the reading of the will for a man she has never met, Kara soon learns the life she knows will forever be changed. Upon inheriting the family estate on Cavanaugh Island from a father she never knew existed, Kara must come to grips with the lies her mother t [...]

    15. I love this author's style of writing. Angel's Landing is a warm love story where the two main characters express their interest in one another early into the story. The reader does not have to wait until the last chapter for the romance to begin. And though there was some suspense, it was very mild, making this a low stressful read. There was very little conflict amongst the characters. I also liked the small town setting and the strong sense of community and cultural pride amongst the citizens [...]

    16. I love this book the emotions the frienship and family and the drama What family dosen't have some issues or people for that matter!I think Jeff should buy Kara a new puppy! You never know what's going to happen next! Great read! I can relate to the story and allot of people will to! Mrs Elers,I to am with you on the math thing! I think teacher from the past could have done better teaching math! It's not my favorite thing either! Ha ha Also cooking I can some but I hope to met someone who can sp [...]

    17. I didn't know that there was another Cavanaugh Island Novel before I read the book, but you can read it as a stand alone novel. I enjoyed reading the story of Jeff and Kara.Kara inherits money, cars, a home, land and other items from a biological father that she never knew about. Jeff is the sheriff of Cavanaugh Island who was given the task of looking out for the new Mistress of Angels Landing plantation. Ms Alers has done it again with an intriguing story line, a great plot and enough umph to [...]

    18. While I really enjoyed the storyline, and the author did a good job of describing the mansion, the author did fail to do a proper job when describing the characters. I did not get a clear picture in my head of what exactly the main characters looked like. The author kept saying that Kara looked exactly like her relatives, but I didn't feel that the readers were given enough information to visualize what she actually looked like. That made it difficult to enjoy the otherwise wonderful story. I ga [...]

    19. Kere comes to town not know why she has been asked to come when she did not know the person . Especially when the letter was asking her to come to her the will read of Taylor Sutton. The attorney took her into the conference room where all the Sutton's were. The will read that Kera was to inherit all of his worldly goods and much more. She was told she was the child of Taylor. So much happens within the time she is there from being threatened, trying to be believe her cousins where liking her, r [...]

    20. This was a book I won and quite honestly I didn't know if I was going to like it because I really love reading the English or Irish authors. Much to my surprise, I really enjoyed the book and I will most certainly want to read more of Rochelle Alers books especially the ones that take place on Cavanaugh Island, SC. Give this author a try, I think you will really enjoy her novels.

    21. When I start to talk out-loud to the book, I have myself a winner.Kara Newell has a big-city life that is given a very big wake up call when she attempts to take a vacation. Ex-marine Jeffrey Hamilton get a wake up call from his cousin to do something that will change his life fall all time. The journey is one to remember, it gives you a insight to family some may never want to experience.

    22. The book started out great- it was light romance. I was interested in the discussion of the life on the island off the coast of South Carolina. My children's father is from SC. The Gullah culture and the discussion of the former slave's lives I found interesting. I was so disappointed after reading 260+ pages there was a sex scene so I shut the book.

    23. The story line was intriguing and the characters likable. However, Ms. Alers made one mistake with several of her characters' lines. She would have them say; "I could care less!", when she meant for them to say "could not" or "couldn't". Also, she went a little to graphic with the love-making scenes. I would rather use my imagination! The ending was rather predictable.

    24. This was a decent book. I did not enjoy it as much as many of her others. I am still going to read the other two books in this series. I still think that Alers is one of the best Romance writers out there. The characterization was vague. I was looking to get more of a Lowcountry feel from the book.

    25. I only had a couple more chapters left but I was just tired of this book and could not finish it. I think I tried long enough to give it a chance but it was just too boring. I don't need cursing, fornication, adultery etc to enjoy a book and I appreciated it for its purity but there was just nothing interesting about this book at all.

    26. I won this book in a giveaway. This is not the type of book I normally would buy and this author was new to me. If you are looking for an uplifting feel good read, this is for you. I'm not so sure how realistic it is, but if you go with the fantasy of it all, you will enjoy it for what it is - an uplifting experience.

    27. I really enjoyed Jeff and Kara's story. I have to say anyone would be shocked to receive the news Kara got regarding Taylor Patton but in the end it all worked out and she gained a lot. I must say I've really enjoyed this series so far and even at times when it seemed like the storyline was slow, it still is a good series and I loom forward to reading more in the future.

    28. I was lucky to win this book in a giveaway. The best way for me to sum up the book is it was just a wonderful story. I am happy I won this because it is not the type of book I normally would buy. Now I will be looking for more from this author.

    29. If you love the south and the history of it, Rochelle Alers, three book series that takes place on Cavanaugh Island, just of the coast at Charleston, S.C are wonderfulI am looking forward now to the last one in the seriesHaven Creek
