    1. This was a good book, if you are looking for something light, quick, and easy. Darkness is very YA. I like the storyline even though it is developing very slowly. But, at times I wonder why I'm reading a book that refers to genitalia as "manhood" and "girlyhood" like I said, very YA. I liked learning more about Carter in this one. I'm interested to find out more about what will develop with him in the next book, Tainted Blood.

    2. Do you know that friend you have -- the one who tells you an awesome five minute story, but takes an hour and a half to tell it? You know, adding lots and lots of extra details that don't matter at all to the main story? Well, that is how I felt about this second book in the Brookehaven Vampires series. I feel like there is something good in this series, but it hasn't arrived yet. I felt like I was in a holding pattern in this book, constantly waiting for the plot to push forward, but never arri [...]

    3. I absolutely LOVED this book! It's not even out yet and I can't wait for the next one! If you thought Laney was good, wait until you read Darkness. I couldn't put it down, kept me interested throughout and I was anxious to see what happened next! ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~RE-READ REVIEW: Ahh I have to say the second time was much better. I had forgotten a lot of the important details and again am SO glad that I decided to do a re-read before starting the 3rd book, Tainted Blood. As the bond between Lane [...]

    4. Ok I hate to be a spoiler but This book had potential and could have been a really good read. The main character was a good smart and strong girl but the author played her like she was stupid. After 1/2 way through the first book it was obvious that Laney is part vampire too. By the end of the first book it was also pretty obvious that her dad (who she never sees and doesn't seem to question it) is the leader of the vampire coven her boyfriend is part of. My problem is even though I've figured t [...]

    6. I couldn't wait to read this book, and I did enjoy it, but I also found myself frustrated with it. I kept waiting for Laney and Oliver to work through their issues, but they never really did. I hated that they fought through the majority of the book. I read in another review that they didn't like Oliver's attitude in this book, but I found myself disliking Laney's attitude. Yes, she had a lot to deal with, but I felt like she took Oliver for granted, and I even felt like Oliver loved Laney more [...]

    7. Since reading the first book, I knew I wanted to read the second. It was good, but some of the plot twist failed to grab me.Plot: This plot pretty much follows the same formula as the first with some slight differences. It’s enjoyable with lots of drama and secrets. It definitely has appeal but some areas lack for me…like the love.Love: UGH! What can I say other than it read like an very dramatic novella. The main character Laney is super whiny and always complaining about something. And Oli [...]

    8. SO many things to blurb out but I wouldn't want to ruin such a great read. It grabs you from the start and keeps you enthralled in their world. You learn so many things when you piece together the little hints that Joann gives you. It had me jumping up and down, saying "I knew it!!Oh wait, noG! YES" you can't help but get lost in the possibilities. Oliver is mysterious and Laney is slowly finding out about her family. Carterp, special indeed and Kiera (smack) lolThe cover is AMAZING!! and fits t [...]

    9. Another awesome book by joann! Such a talented writer! The book was ah-mazing! Had a very hard time putting it down. I would always wonder, what's going to happen next! Everytime I would put it down, it was like a magnet pulling me back to it. Laney was great! Darkness is even greater! You will not be disappointed! Thank you joann for sharing this wonderful world of Laney and her gorgeous knight, Oliver <3cannot wait for book 3!

    10. Great sequel! Man Oliver is really showing his possessive side. I was sad about Laney's aunt :( Julz really freaked me out in this one. Crap she is pyscho! And it pissed me off the way she was treating Issac. Really Julz, I know your bonded with Oscar, who in my opinion is defenitely one egg short of dozen and your tossing a good guy to the side GOD DAMMIT! It does looks like there could be something going on between Felix and Hayden. I hope Laney and Oliver bond soon!!

    11. I waited forever, like the rest of you, for the continuation of Laney and Olivier's story. The entire book was a roller coaster of "Were they gonna do it or not" and I loved every minute of it. The anticipation is killing me, but that's what gets us to buy the next book, am I right? The ending killed me. I want the next one right now. I hope Book 3 comes out a lot quicker. Don't let us down, Joann!!!

    12. I was a little disappointed in the storyline. I love the characters, but I just felt like the author wasn't sure which way to go with the story and felt pulled all over the place. I just felt like the book kept leading up to something and then nothing I am anxious to read the next book. Again, still love the characters & want to find out what happens next

    13. I'm a huge fan of joann's! She is an amazing writer and she never disappointments! I waited for so long for darkness and I was on the edge the whole time. My only problem was that it ended and left me wondering when the third book will be released. Great job Joann! And I can't wait to see what Laney and Oliver get into next!

    14. I love this seriesney and Oliver are wonderful. Imexcited to see how book 3 will be. Hayden, Felix?? Wow I dont even know what to say. Keep up the amazing work!

    15. Love, Vamps, and Were's, Well book 2 down. Amazing story. Such a whirlwind of emotions. It's hard to put down once you start. A must read book.Happy Reading

    17. After the emotional and frightening events of the past few days, Laney and Oliver head to Julz's house to recuperate. Julz is unhappy about her new house guests, and is especially unwelcoming towards Laney. Matters become even worse when Oliver informs Julz that he wants her to tell Laney her story. Laney is finally going to get answers about the mysterious Julz, but will she be able to accept what Julz tells her? With everyone on edge, Laney finds comfort in Oliver – that is until a tragedy oc [...]

    18. Picking up where Laney left off, Oliver and Laney have fled to the fortress that is Julz's house and is forced to just stay there with the crazy-@ss woman who is determined to rip her to shreds. And with Felix's insistence, Carter is also there, recovering from a werewolf bite, nervously awaiting the full moon to see what happens. The entire household is on edge, and it strains all their relationships. One night when left alone for once, Laney finally says screw it and goes out with Carter and g [...]

    20. **Caution: may contain spoilers**After the 1st book, this one made me a little angryAfter an incident at the college, it's shut down for a while. To keep Laney safe, Oliver takes her to Julz's and Isaac's house-which turns out to be his house. But that's only 1 secretAfter Carter is attacked by a werewolf, everyone is on edge about what will happen to him, since he actually comes from a vampire line. In the heat of emotions Julz (who already doesn't like Laney) spills the beans about Oliver bein [...]

    22. For People Who havent read it:Darkness is a good second book in the Brookehaven Vampires series. We get to not only see more into Laney and Olivers lives, but also get to know his family a little better. In this book you get to see more into the lives of Issac, Hayden, Julz, and Felix. They spend a majority of the book at Oliver's house, so there is quite a bit of the other characters in this book. But you still get a lot of Oliver and Laney of course. There relationship faces some hard struggle [...]

    23. Sorry if these thoughts are a bit all over the shop and are short and sharp, but thats how I felt when I finished this book a few days ago. I cant get it outta my mind. If Carter is set up as a love interest against Oliver for Laney in book 3, I'm ganna cry. I felt so infuriated and totally unsympathetic towards Laney in this book, even when her Aunt is killed. She just seems so thoughtless and selfish all the time. Why didn't she just demand answers instead of wallowing in her own ridiculous th [...]

    25. Review brought to you by OBS staff member AngieBeware of spoilersDarkness by Joann Martin Sowles is the second installment in The Brookehaven Vampire Series. In the previous book, Laney, we met the main characters Laney, Oliver, Carter, Kiera, Julz, Felix, Issac, and Hailey. Darkness picks up LITERALLY right where Laney left off. If it’s been a while since you read Laney I recommend that you refresh yourself. I found myself having to go back and re-read a few chapters to catch up.We pick up wi [...]

    26. Laney and her potential mate are back for another action-packed, paranormal story. The reader will dive right into the book within the first couple of pages. It is recommended that the reader first pick up Laney or risk not knowing quite a few facts from the first book. Laney is still clever and witty, though she is a little whiny in this book. Oliver still has that raspy, charismatic voice that will make the reader fall a little bit in love with him. He is very protective and caring towards Lan [...]

    27. WOw. Wow. Wow! I love love loved this book! This book is the sequel to Laney and it blew me away. I loved this book because it had so much in it. You never knew what was going to happen, what Laney was thinking, nothing it was unpredictable and I loved every single page of this book!Laney in this one is kind of spiraling into darkness. She has so much happening in this book, and has no idea how to process it all. Throughout this whole book I was thinking Damn she is one strong girl. She kept goi [...]

    28. I was again blown away by Joann's ability to write such an amazing story. Laney and Oliver's relationship is by far anything but easy. Trying to be in a relationship with an over protective vampire is definitely not as easy as Laney thought it was going to be.I am a big fan of Joann's she has this great ability to make you feel like you are sucked into her stories. I absolutely adored the first novel Laney and I was thrilled that Darkness lived up to my expectations. Darkness is filled with as m [...]

    29. Today's review is on Darkness: The Brookehaven Vampires, #2 by Joann I. Martin SowlesAfter waiting so long for this second installment in the Brookehaven series, I am left with mixed feelings. One thing for certain is that compared to Laney; in my opinion, Darkness is basically a flop.Laney was so needy and whiny throughout the entire book, and because it has taken so long for this book to come out, I couldn't remember if she was as bad in the first one. Though there were moments between her and [...]

    30. Darkness leads us futher into the paranormal world that Laney has discovered surrounding her academic life, and a deeper understanding that the life she thought she had was only a small insignificant portion of what was destined to develop. As her romance with Oliver deepens, she's led into a world of love and loss, at the same time as she discovers her place in it.Ms. Sowles’ vampires do not glitter, and apparently don’t feel that marriage is all that necessary. They “bond”for life, and [...]
