    1. Me 262 gets a 4 Star rating from me but I am biased. First, I’m reading #25 of 100 limited editions with the signatures of Allied and Axis pilots who flew the jet or fought against it. It is a thrill to read about a dogfight and then turn to look at the man’s signature and aircraft. It isn’t cheap to have that but worth it to me. It also brings this story a little more realism. Also, as retired fighter pilot, it was fascinating to read about the mass “gaggles” and “furballs” and ma [...]

    2. The Me 262 Stormbird: From the Pilots Who Flew, Fought, and Survived It (2012) by Colin Heaton describes the development of the Me 262 and how it was used and how some of the more famous units that flew it fared. The book also has appendices that catalog Me 262 pilots. The Me 262 was a remarkable aircraft, it was the first operation jet fighter and was developed by the Germans during WWII when they were under incredible strain. After the war with far greater resources at their disposal it would t [...]

    3. This book is well explained Me262, it's advantage over allied fighters and bombers. And it made me understand its weak point and its tactical limitations.During WW2 our Japanese Air Force didn't have fighters which could reach the high altitude at which B 29 invaded our territory. German fighter aces never involve a dog fighting with allied fighters to make their jets more effective.Their tactical flexibility was excellent. I rated this book 4 stars because it didn't have a fewer anything about M [...]

    4. The Me 262, used by the Luftwaffe in the waning days of WWII, was a gamechanging aircraft and is best known for being the world's first operational combat jet. Heaton, an emerging historian of German aviation in WWII, uses his own personal interviews with German aces (the basis of his earlier THE GERMAN ACES SPEAK) to build a story of this iconic jet from its inception to its operational history. A great read for aviation enthusiasts.

    5. Substantively informative, the first hand accounts from the pilots was very interesting — and a great save as that generation passes away. But, in the words of my father who also read the book, "if this had and editor, they should be shot." Better copy editing could have made this book — readable, if not a joy.

    6. To many, the idea of a 300-page book all about the development and deployment of the world’s first jet fighter is not very enticing. But to those who do read and are interested in this book, I would highly recommend reading The Me-262 Stormbird, by Colin Heaton and Anne-Marie Lewis. Not only do the statements from those who flew and fought the Messerschmitt 262, but the copious amounts of appendix really allow for the viewer to fully surround themselves in the information that this book provi [...]
