    1. ARC received through netgalleyI’d been looking at this one at netgalley for a while, so after reading some reviews, I scurried over and clickety-click! I downloaded. The funny thing is, that it’s the negative reviews that drew me in. I knew the majority of the plot since I’m a spoiler fiend, but I was really interested into the surprise bondage scene (don’t worry, it’s some lite bondage and spanking). An Historical Romance with a bit of bondage you say? Sign me up!But what was botherso [...]

    2. Nicholas Buchanan, the Duke of Dorchester is a man use to getting what he wants and when he wants, so when accepting a invitation to visit a horse stud farm in the country to get away from the city life, he meets up with a local "poor relation" of the family he's visting Alicia Woodley. We makes a bet with his henchman that he'll be bedding her before his stay is over, of course he didn't reckon that Alicia would turn all his plans on their head! This book started off on the right foot, Soliman [...]

    3. Rating: 2 1/2Quickie ReviewCourtesy of NetGalleyOf Dukes and Deceptions was a fun little read, if you’re not looking for a serious plot. The story line was weak, the relationships unbelievable and the characters undeveloped but Nick and Alicia’s dialogues with each other were hilarious and it’s why I gave this novel a 2.5. Now, Nick the hero is an arrogant ass with little to no redeeming qualities but you know in real life how there are just some people who think they are God’s gift to t [...]

    4. This is a Quickie Review. For the full review, please visit The RomanceaholicWhen I first read the description of this novel, I knew I had to read it. A Duke, a wager, a hoyden, and a villain out for murder, it all sounded incredibly intriguing.Unfortunately, there was a major detail missing from the description that in my opinion completely changes the target audience for the book, and completely blindsided me. It seems that Nicholas is into submissive women in the bedroom. Now, don’t get me [...]

    5. Of Dukes and Deceptions sucked me in right away. As many historical romances as I read, one would think I’d have come across this premise at least once, but I’m happy to say it was a new one on me. One of the most dastardly laws known to women of the Regency period prohibited them from inheriting property. When Alicia Woodley’s father dies, his estate—and his prosperous stud farm—pass on to an uncle even though Alicia was the driving force behind the farm. Her uncle refuses to allow h [...]

    6. Nicholas is used to having women throw themselves at his feet. He is, after all, a Duke. And all the ladies want to be Duchess. All the ladies except Alicia. She meets Nicholas when he comes to her family's stud farm to inspect the horses. But he was really invited so that her cousin could get her hooks into him.Right away, Nicholas realizes Alicia is different. She is far more interested in tending animals that snaring a husband. She is fiery and independent. And creates a challenge he can't ig [...]

    7. I wanted to love this book. I really, really did. I'm always on the lookout for British-set historicals written by actual British writers. It has long struck me as strange that the vast, vast majority of Regencies are written by Americans. I think Soliman shows tremendous potential, but this book just didn't work for me mainly because I just don't like the "Arrogant Duke sets out to Ruthlessly Seduce and Ruin Poor, Defenseless Heroine For the Sake of Random Bet" trope. I do, however, like Bets a [...]

    8. I have to agree with other reviewers that this doesn't bring anything new to the genre. The hero isn't all that likable, and barely manages to redeem himself. It was also really odd to have bdsm in a book that barely makes a pg-13 rating for me. I may have been more interested if she had made the story an erotic-historical instead of a historical that happens to have some slight bdsm.

    9. The words “receptive” and “rampart” will henceforth bring a mental image like never before. The delightful Of Dukes and Deceptions gave me a new perspective. While the story showcases social mores and the less than admirable character traits of some, it is carried along on a wave of humor, both subtle and obvious, that makes it sparkle. It sizzles and sings with emotions. Alicia Woodley, the poor relative at Ravenswing Manor, where she once was lady of the manor and hostess for her fathe [...]

    10. As I started reading this one, I thought this was going to be something that took me forever to finish. Having just finished the last page, I'm delighted to report that this one caught me by surprise. This is the story of Alicia Woodley, who lives with her uncle and his family in her ancestral home, Ravenswing Manor, after the death of her father. She loves to nurse sick animals, rescue animals caught in poachers traps and ride her beloved stallion, Fabian. It's as she is rescuing an rabbit caugh [...]

    11. You always know things are gonna get ugly when a wager is involved. I love spending time waiting for the heroine to find out – then commences the hero’s remorse and sudden construction of a conscience. In typical fashion, all is forgiven in the end and everyone gets a Happily Ever After. Okay, so that was just one part of the story. The other part is a bit of a mystery and bout of sleuthing that goes on regarding the circumstances behind the operation of a stud farm that the Duke, Nicholas, [...]

    12. I rated this book 3 of 5 stars. The book was enjoyable, set in 1800’s England. This book featured Alicia Woodley, who considered herself the “poor relation” who didn’t deserve much. Alicia had been pretty much run over by her cruel family, and she yet she still loved them all. Nicholas Buchanan, the Duke of Dorchester, meets Alicia and decides that she is a challenge he wants to undertake. He wants to bed her and show her her worth. Nicholas didn’t count on finding himself genuinely ca [...]

    14. Reviewed at: Library of LightsDate reviewed: 28th Feb 2011Review link: mykindaland/?p=172Of Dukes and Deception is a very interesting historical romance. At the beginning, it made me wonder, how far this story will go? And how long can the main male character deceive the female character and denies the feelings that he has for her? And how long would he believe that his relationship with her is no longer just a wager?I like reading this book, it gives me warm and fuzzy feelings all over. I smiled [...]

    15. I have mixed feelings about giving this a 2 star rating when it really is borderline OK. I liked the authentic tone, but the vocabulary was a bit over the top. Rampant???? I never really "get" why Alicia is attracted to his duke-ness. She goes from zero to sixty in desire for him based on a couple of kisses and a lot of arrogant talk. There is an integrity issue with the duke (view spoiler)[targeting a young woman with no thought what-so-ever about how his attentions would impact her, until he t [...]

    16. I read FORGOTTEN HEIRESS earlier and I liked it but it wasn't steamy or hot enough. Well, Wendy Solomon knows how to write steamy, sparks flying, pages smoking hot and need fire extinguishers scenes. Alicia was a poor in money but wealthy in the heart. She cares for all things four legged, furry and probably scales and fins too. Her uncle, aunt and 3 cousins let her stay at the stud farm that her father and her started after he die but didn't love her. Duke Nick was a typical arrogant, pompous a [...]

    17. Wow thats my first though after reading this book. I absolutely loved it and will definitely be forwarding many of my friends towards it. I highly enjoyed the high spirited heroine Alicia and the determined hero Nicholas. I loved their interactions together and found myself cheering Alicia on quite a few times through out the story. Nicholas' transformation was slow but believable and highly enjoyable to watch. I also loved the dukes Valet/Groom Gibson. He was very humorous and entertaining as w [...]

    19. Not as good as what I was hoping.I was lucky enough to get this sent to my Kindle for free to review and as a massive fan of historical romances I really hoped this was going to be good. However it fell a bit flat to me.I didnt really like the character of Nick (the Duke). There wasnt anything in particular I disliked, I think because his really wasnt an in-depth character, like I am used to, and it hinted at his background lightly but thats all it was. The same goes for all of the characters rea [...]

    20. I admit that historical romance is my guilty pleasure, and Ms. Soliman fulfilled that pleasure with a piece that depicts the era perfectly, and with two characters that made me fantasize. It was rather hard not to fantasize about Nick, and I found myself "turning the pages" in haste because I couldn't wait for the scenes with him and Alicia alone. I also enjoyed watching the way the Woodley family handled Nick. There were times I chuckled out loud at their attempts of manipulation.I will definit [...]

    21. I just wrote about the trope that wasn'td the trope that was in this new ebook in a blog entry for Heroes and Heartbreakers.
