    2. Star of the Sea: A Day in the Life of a Starfish is on my favorites shelf because it is packed full of information for readers to learn about a starfish as they follow one through a day in their life. This is a book designed for primary readers and is considered informational. While the star fish, Sea Star, focused on in this book may seem fictional because of the way she is used as the main character, the text and pictures about her gives students plenty of interesting and true information abou [...]

    3. The ochre sea star is the common starfish of the Pacific coast. With sticky tube feet, she can cling to the rocks but when high tide rolls in, the star is able to crawl on the land by pumping water into her feet. Sea star hunts among the shore for a morning feast using her rays as a means of propulsion. Little eyespots at the end of each ray tell her light from dark. If somehow the sea star flips over she can manage to fold herself over in two and somerault back to normal position. What an agile [...]

    4. Not only is this book gorgeously illustrated but very informative as well. The book follows a single day of a sea star struggles to survive as both predator and prey. The reader watches as the sea star makes her way out of the water toward a group of mussels. The details about how the sea star moves and senses the world were fascinating. I appreciated learning about how sea stars eat by inserting her stomach into the mussel, not many creatures eat like that. Details like this make this book perf [...]

    5. The ochre sea star is a common starfish of the Pacific coast. After falling victim to a seagull’s attack, Sea Star was able to regenerate to hunt again. Janet Halfmann goes on to explain how sea stars feeds mainly on mussels. but will also feed on barnacles, snails, limpets, and chitons when mussels are absent. They eat by extending their stomach into their prey. When falling prey to other sea animal she is able to do a circus acrobat and somersaults away. A bright and wonderful color illustra [...]

    6. I have always liked sea stars, but really knew few facts related to them. Who would think that a 32 page children's picture book could advance my knowledge. Through the story of one day in the life of a sea star one can comprehend the basics of their anatomy as well as their feeding process. Following the story is two pages of pages of facts presented in a well written narrative, followed by a very brief bibliography and a glossary. I was fascinated with this title which is visually and factuall [...]

    7. Grade: KindergartenWe can always look up in the sky at night and see the shiny stars, but how often you get to see another type of star, a starfish, interacting underneath water? Instead of just shining in the night sky, starfish not only shin under the sea, but it roams around the sea and look for food, tries to protects itself from other creatures, and are often kept held somewhere they don't want to be. This is a great book for children who are interested in the life of sea animals.

    8. I did not know starfish were meat eaters per say. I learned so much about them in this delightful and insightful picture book written by Janet Halfmann and illustrated by Joan Paley. Picture books are a great entertaining way to learn facts about things that we may not know and this is one of those fine books. It shows one of the circles of life in the expansive sea.Published by Henry Holt & Company.#starfish #ocean #habitat #nature #PB

    9. Who: Kids Preschool thru 4th gradeThis nonfiction book gives good information about starfish and all kids will come away learning something new. The part about how they feed "Sea Star extends her stomach right out of her mouth.owly her stomach turns the mussel's soft body to liquid" makes me glad there aren't GIANT starfish out there!! At the end more facts and diagrams are available as well as a glossary and websites.

    10. A beautiful book on what it's like to be a sea star. In read-aloud format children are introduced to a sea star. Readers will learn that a sea star has sticky feet and arms that are called rays. During the story the star eats mussels, is picked up by a seagull and dropped back into the ocean and escapes a fish.Bright illustrations are sure to attract ocean lovers.

    11. Great for any kids who like the tide pools or exploring the beach. Puts you in the life of a sea star during a complete tidal cycle. There's even a "nail-biting" sequence involving a gull. But, being a children's book, things turn out fine. An impressive picture book that relates facts while telling a good story. Back-matter further explains the life of seastars for older readers.

    12. A good early reader nonfiction. The text and illustrations are engaging. As an adult I learned things about star fish that I didn't even know. For example, their "legs" can grow back, they eat mussells.

    13. My students said they liked the way the book was laid out. I liked that even though it was a nonfiction book, there was a definite plot with a resolution.

    14. 4.5 stars! Great read! Don't let the title fool you. This is a gem!!! Informative, beautifully illustrated, a perfect book for our beachside vacation.

    15. This is a very informational book about starfish. It has very good pictures and is very well illustrated. Students will be able to really understand the day of a starfish
